HOLY! It's about time! Didn't we get like a dubbed trailer at a convention like five years ago?

Anyways, can't be more excited right now.

Since this is a simuldub, I'm guessing it'll be Funi stable actors and not the Bang Zoom dub that was done for one (or more?) of the episodes a while ago.

Worth noting that Voyager never completed their own release of the subtitled discs (they stopped after 4 or so)

Great announcement. Anime fans over the age of 35 are literally screaming right now.

I have to say, kind of stretching the definition of "simultaneous" when using it on a show that's 5 years old. Laughing I guess they've really got to use that "simuldub" trademark.

Nice. I’ve been waiting to own this. The Voyager thing didn’t work out unfortunately.

This is a huge surprise. I also wonder if this dub means a full R1 disc release for 2199. But more importantly, does this also mean a physical, local release for 2202?

Well, that's interesting! I may watch it. It's good to see Funimation take a chance on this.

I only wish we could also get the original, classic Space Battleship Yamato with a new English dub (instead of that Star Blazers branding). But I guess it won't do to ask for the moon.

I was thinking "What, no Kickstarter? Who'll know if it'll sell since it's old?! It's a risk!" But maybe they're finally feeling a little antsy about their seasonal simuldubs filled with shows that barely manage to keep it together, never mind the ones that never should have gotten dubs in the first place.

The company added the title to its list of fall season simuldubs.

Something of a known quality in a sea of quantity... it'll never catch on...

If there is no physical release, I will sell out humanity to the aliens.

I really, really hope this means an affordable physical release is in the works. I just can't justify to myself dropping all that money on the older release especially now that a dubbed version is happening.

Funny how they doubled backed on Resurrection and then did this.

Hoping it's the completed test dub from a couple years back. This really needs an all star cast period.

Also;
Simuldub? Over five years old?
Uh....Okay.

Now since this is a Xebec show, when's Exodus? Laughing

I hope this does give us a good dual audio release I'd be willing to double dip for the dub for the series and the second movie (I have the Japanese bluray set for the series and the movie single).

Yamato: Resurrection was a project that NEVER finished because it failed...

and then the producer dies which didn't help matters, either.

The last few Yamato projects before the 2199 revamp came and went without making much of a blip, even in Japan where the original series is treated like an icon, almost a mini-religion for most of the big-name anime creators of today who are over 45.

Yeah, it would have helped Funi if they had cleared matters sooner BUT they did get the live-action film which was an open-and-closed show unlike Resurrection which was supposed to be several episodes (films?) long.

I can see where they don't want to commit to something that's one episode and have people bugging them for more when there isn't more OR have a situation where they have something that just bombs, doesn't sell because people are aware of the fact that it was a "failed project." And the film's really not that good... It's kinda slow and it's heart-breaking to watch something only to realize it's part of the failed pilot season/movie of the week.

I can remember that situation happened with ADV Films and a few of the titles they licensed that had inexplicable, abrupt endings and the "To Be Continued" follow-up never happened. Doomed Megalopolis and New Cutey Honey (which was supposed to be 10-12 episodes long but finished with a VERY roughed out episode 8 after the "third season" was cancelled) come to mind.

I'm hoping something DOES come after the 2199 dub gets streamed. I just hope we don't have to wait another four years OR have another BD release get abruptly cancelled with no official explanations from the license holder such as happened with the last attempt to market 2199 in the States.

I'm hoping someone other than Voyager handles this, THIS time but I'm not holding my breath. If we want to talk about anime handled WORSE than the original Macross property, then Starblazers/Yamato:TOS and Voyager's association with the Yamato property is probably worse. The sad thing is that it's available but the quality of Yamato:TOS is far worse than any of the formerly licensed Macross releases ever were. If a restored Yamato EVER hits Western shores, it'll be a minor miracle. I honestly think we'll see a restored Macross on Blu ray at an affordable pricepoint before that happens!

I really don't want to import from Japan more than a few times! I just got lucky this past year and bought the original Macross feature film on Blu ray (on sale) for a FRACTION (about 20%) of what the old LD box set sold for in the 1990s!

I've been through that before in the LD era, skipped the whole business on DVD (region locking and lack of subs on 99% of the disc releases kills the import enthusiasm on top of prices 3-4 times the US average anime disc), and don't intend to buy a lot of Japanese Blu rays with the way most of the big name shows DO get released in the States within a decent span of 2 years tops or less nowadays.

I'll get Yamato 2199 (IF it ever drops in a full-series release on Blu ray in the States) since it doesn't look like the original show is coming over anytime soon...
Honestly, though, I WISH they hadn't made some of the story changes they DID make in 2199. They diminished (Susumu) Kodai's role a bit much, I think...

In a perfect world, if I were the Voice Director, I'd do two dubs and a sub track. The sub track and dub track one would be the accurate proper dub - Yamato, Kodai, Desslar and so on. Dub track two would get Ken Mestoral, Tom Tweedy, Amy Howard and use Wildstar, Desslok, Argo and the like. Do the level best localization and voice acting you can, but throw the old school a bone too.

That makes everyone happy!
