Squirrel brains scrambled with eggs. That's a thing. Best with cream gravy, lots of cream gravy. Yep.

So far it's a faithful and good adaptation, the pace is correct but with only 12 eps a faster one would have been better ( although I do not mind a rather slow one, all my favorites moments in the manga were in the first 50 chapters, later this manga could add Bara Yaoi to it's genre, those who read the manga will understand :p ).

Using CGI is a good choice here, people often say CGI=Bad but to think in this way is a waste, i saw most likely all CGI anime and yes a lot of them are ugly and bad but the good one are masterpieces, the early ones were kind of "trial and error", recently most of them were well done.

My only regret in this anime so far is that the facial expressions are about 20% as good as the one in the manga, otherwise, good job.

So far I haven't touched the anime precisely because of the watered down (comedic) expressions. I was super hyped about the anime before it started, but saw folks tweeting about the faces and felt let-down. I figured if they weren't going to commit with one of the better parts of the manga (besides all of the Ainu culture, nude guys and general quirky charm), then I didn't feel the rest would be done justice.

It is good to hear that the anime is doing a good job otherwise, and they're easing up not toning down the facial expressions. I was also worried the studio would shy away from the male nudity. But this does look good, and I do want to support the series, so I think I'm going to watch afterall.

I kinda agree with both criticism. I find the Ainu stuff kinda boring, like the anime just randomly switch to an old 80 documentary about some random culture and expose it in a not particularly interesting way. At the same time the villain is just too over the top for me to take seriously and that part also bore me a bit. But I really like Sugimoto and Asirpa so I'll keep watching for awhile and see how it develop, I'm guessing they'll run out of random Ainu trivia soon so that aspect will go and maybe the bad guy will be killed soon and replace by someone less clownish.

If the anime continue to be faithful from the original work then spoiler[no it's the opposite]

Keep in mind that Golden Kamuy main selling points are black humor and over exaggerated expressions, most of the time it's not the kind of serie that should followed seriously.

I agree with the article in that you think the plot would be the most interesting part of the show but it simply isn't. I had never heard of the Ainu before this anime either but so far the historical documentation elements are my favourite.

It also appears I have been eating squirrel wrong. I tend to roast them and eat them as is but there are so many bones that you struggle to get all the meat. Might try putting it all in a blender next time and see how it works. Smile

Well that doesn't sound good, the faces and black humor are maybe 2-3% of the actual showtime, I'm not watching 22 min just for a few seconds of worthwhile material...

Absolutely loving this show so far.

I think the facial expressions have been good and fine. I think they've made for some great reactions in the scenes.

Cool. I'm glad they're not changing pacing for the current 12 ep run, as a non-manga reader I think this pace is good so far as long as they get renewed for more.
