Didn’t Viz license the Reborn anime way back when? Man, that would have been perfect for that series to get a dub, but alas, it appears that will never happen.

DEVILMAN YEAH!!!!! That's pretty much all I have to say. I've waited too long for this and my prediction just came true.

FUNimation dubs D.Gray-man; Viz releases the entire manga even amidst the many hiatuses.

Reborn! and Gintama anime sit in limbo for years; Viz cancels both of those series. Also tangentially related, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure only comes out with relative consistency after the David Production adaptation is released(and dubbed, and on TV).

Coinicidences? You be the judge. Happy for Reborn! fans anyway.

From what I remember, Viz didn't actually license the series, but instead made some sort of deal that exclusively involved streaming and wouldn't get in the way of anyone else picking the show up.

Am I dreaming? Reborn! is coming, and the first set will contain three digit episodes??
I haven't been this excited to pre-order something in years.

Oh snap. I was just thinking about Stellvia the other day and how I would like to rewatch it. This is super exciting!

Oh my God REBORN!

That was one of my favourite series but I haven't seen it in ages. I hope it's not just blu-ray and gets a dvd release as well otherwise I'll have to get a multi-region blu-ray player or wait in vain hoping it gets a UK release some day as well.

I've looked at rightstuf and it is really cheap considering there's 101 episodes worth there.

At least if I buy a new player I'll be able to buy the cardcaptor sakura blu-ray as well so it's looking like my best option right now.

Reborn anime!!! There are tears in my eyes. I'm crying. I've waited so long for this, now I can finally own it! Discotek are my heroes!

I was buying the manga (think I'm missing 14 and 15, or something like that) when it was available, but does anyone know why Viz stopped releasing them? I think an omnibus edition would be great, or if anyone else could pick it back up again like Viz did for 07-Ghost after Go! Comi went under.

Had been meaning to want to see the 2004 Tetsujin 28 anime sometime down the line. Suppose I should consider snagging it up once Discotek has it available for pre-order.

Reborn, eh? Perhaps they can one day get Hikaru no Go too then?

As for Tetsujin 28 (2004), I really enjoyed the series and I'm glad to see it back in print! It seems like just the sort of thing Discotek would go for too! I do still like my big Geneon box though! Got the whole thing super cheap way back in the day! And perhaps Giant Robo shall be next! That thing would look so damn gorgeous in HD!

Viz is in business to stay in business.
The business model is to make money, not to please 100% of the fans because that will never happen.
They have cancelled multiple anime home video releases (at least 6-7 by my count) after a few volumes when the sales were bad and stopped publishing manga when they were just not selling.
They dubbed the entire Monster TV series years ago but never released all of it on home video (past one boxset) because it was a ratings failure on TV. They were counting on the TV broadcast to sell the series on DVD but the viewers just weren't there. The ratings for anime on cable have never been fantastic (the viewership was far higher when anime was shown on network TV in the 1960s AND syndicated nationwide through the 1980s; Cartoon Network numbers have never equalled what Voltron or Robotech got in the 1980s on local TV stations nationwide) but they know the numbers that will translate into home video sales.
Viz flat out will not go into debt to please fans who just aren't buying anime and manga releases (and with all the bootlegging, scanlation, and illegal streamig it makes it harder for anyone to make money on licensing). I know their PR and reputation among fans is awful at times but look at how many companies that were in existence in the 1990s that are still around licensing anime and manga. It's not that many!

They've given plenty of series a chance but they just didn't sell, they weren't popular in North America.
Viz had the rights to Urusei Yatsura for a long time and picked up resumed publishing that series TWICE after cancellation and reformatting (monthly to Animerica exclusive back to monthly and trade formats) but it was never that popular so they dropped it and never finished translating all of it. They never bothered with the UY anime since it was so long (over 200 episodes of TV, OVA, and movies) and this was in the days (early 1990s) before anybody attempted anything that long. AnimEigo picked up the UY anime but it took them a decade to release all of it (except the second film) on home video and that was with the bulk of it being subtitled-only!
Ranma's the longest series Viz has released on home video but it was also their most successful. They weren't going to do Dragonball which ran over 500 episodes and utterly failed in the first attempt at syndication in the US in the 1990s. Dragonball didn't hit big until over a decade after the first home release in the US on VHS. It was a very limited release by Streamline Pictures.
Viz would NEVER have finished Ranma 1/2 (the anime and manga) had it not continued to hit its sales goals and in the early years they were going by volume by volume sales (tapes with 2-3 episodes on them) on the anime, there was no such thing as a season release (23-26 episodes a box). Season sets didn't become the trend until after 2007!

More Yasuhiro Imagawa is good news. His iteration of Tetsujin 28 was excellent (if deeply tragic) and I'll be glad to finally own it, and on Blu-Ray.

No offense, GeorgeC, but what does all of that have to do with anything? We're talking about Discotek, and these new home video releases.

As for Tetsujin 28, I had half-hoped it would be the Japanese version of the original black and white series from the 1960s, but figured it was probably the more recent show...
