This is an interesting situation because whether or not Crunchyroll is bought by Sony is almost certainly going to affect how the movie gets distributed in the west.

Best place for the prequal story really and frees up any continuation of the TV anime to be a future series.

Well, as long as we're having a 2nd TV season of the main story, a movie about the prequel is OK, because this trend of doing (or wanting to do) movie sequels of mid-story anime shows are getting pretty annoying.

I personally don’t mind waiting years for a season 2 announcement. Manga readers have already spoiled the Shibuya arc for me...

Crunchyroll does anime theatrical releases too, like with Tanya the Evil and Konosuba.

I'm glad it's not a movie continuation of the show, but this does mean it will be longer till we get a second season regardless :/
