The live action literally replaced the manji symbol on the back of the uniforms, so why couldn't they have just done that for the international release so that we didn't get the current butchered, censored version we have right now???

They didn't replace it, they just made it more figurative so that it's less recognizable, I suppose for potential international streaming purposes: https://i.imgur.com/JIMnElz.png

The question "WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THIS FOR THE ANIME" stands, though.
