Will this have the Seed Destiny redub? I think it was implied they also redubbed Destiny.

Stargazer was never dubbed.

Two different box sets.

Nice to see a matching collectors edition for Destiny. Personally though I wish they had a collector's version for both without the original SD eps for those who already have them -_-

I don't have much of an interest in Seed or Destiny, but I'm not a fan of holding a complete extant dub hostage in some sort of exclusive collector's edition. Looking at a recent comparable example, when FUNi did their redub of the "extended" version of Escaflowne, they included the original dub and doubled-up versions of the broadcast cut episodes. I know it was easier there since it was only the first handful of episodes that had additions, but surely it wouldn't have been too much to give people a separate SD BD release of the original cut, since it seems like there was clearly demand for it.

I wonder if it will sell well. Seed Destiny is a total mess albeit an often interesting one even as it falls apart in its back half that I would be willingly to say that it is at least less badly written than the Gundam series that inspired it (Zeta) but even so... the animosity of the western fandom towards it still flares up strong even now.

My only question is whether or not CE73: Stargazer will get a dub, since that wasn't made clear. It would also be nice if it got its own separate release, if it is going to be dubbed, since I already have the superior english dub in the original Bandai DVDs (The re-dub, at least for the original series, is completely atrocious in comparison to the original Bandai dub from Ocean Studios).

Eh at this point those fans who spent hours making terrible youtube videos and flaming comment forums with seed and destiny hate, are in their late 30s, early 40s. So MOST (not all) have better things to do. Additionally we have had a lot more gundam series since seed and destiny that have their very own hate mobs...so at least the distaste has been atomized within the gundam community. And seed and destiny still have their dedicated fanbases, especially among those who aren't big gundam fans...so it will probably be fine and sell well enough.

This is not to say that seed and gsd don't have problems, but I do think a lot of their infamy has more to do with the perfect storm of being aired right when the internet/anime forums/fandubs were taking off and getting prolific. If they were released today, I seriously doubt they would garner the same level of venomous, toxic hatred they recieved in 2007-2009. Then again Gundam Age might have a thing or two to say about my opinion here...

Tl;dr Gundam fans now have a lot more Gundam series to hate. So....yay?

It's true there's been so many bad gundam show that aired since destiny, like... well most of them really. IBO S2 can probably seriously challenge destiny as worst follow up and unicorn is a few notch higher on the "dumb plot that make no sense" meters. Then there's reconquista and so on, the gundam salt mine runs deep and will probably never run out.

I should hope so. I doubt Age has suddenly become less terrible (and less obviously designed as a video game plot and not a 49 episode anime plot) in the intervening years.

Glad to see Destiny getting a release even if fans don't think it as good as the first series--but I would have loved it if Nozomi had offered a limited edition rigid artbox that would have housed all the amaray cases of both series, because I personally am not really a fan of premium sets that don't fit on my regular blu-ray shelf.

It would be weird to redub all of seed and destiny, and then not dub stargazer.

SEED Destiny is a lot better than most give it credit for. It has a particularly strong start and it has some of the most interesting philosophical conversations in Gundam. I think it also has more interesting characters than SEED overall, and it has a great soundtrack. The original English dub was memorable, too.

It gets hampered by too much stock footage, recap filler, and a messy, rushed final third or so (starting somewhere around ep.39 as I recall), and that sort of colors the series in a negative light. I heard that the Durandal "chess" episode got cut from the Remaster, which is a shame. It was largely a recap, but it gave some nice insight into the themes of the series and its characters. I think cutting some of the other recap material could help the flow, but I think I saw that the Remaster also sort of unnecessarily overdid some things with its updates, like fan service and such.

I have the original on DVD, so I'm not sure about the new set. What I'm trying to weigh here is what's going on with Stargazer. That is something I want. While not as good, it's basically the Gundam 0080 of the SEED universe. It would be amazing if it got a dub, but I also am surprised that it's not getting its own release.

Destiny is actually an above average Gundam series because a lot of the Gundam series that have aired since have been bad and not a success. Age, 00 Movie, narrative, ibo season 2, Unicorn, and those build fighter cash grab commercials. And these series have an advantage since Sunrise got richer after SEED with a bigger budget. Destiny had memorable characters, good suits, a pretty solid story line actually. It is only Destiny's ending that was just mediocre because it tried to emulate SEED and Char's Counterattack. Tomino himself is more fine with Destiny than a lot of other series. Tomino will talk about series he is fond of, but won't say a word on series that is really below is expectations (e.g. Victory, build fighters). Tomino talked alot about SEED and Destiny. https://www.reddit.com/r/Gundam/comments/2g3eef/did_tomino_have_an_opinion_about_the_other_gundam/
Akira Ishida won the best supporting voice actor for his portrayal of Athrun and Kira's VA got nominated. SEED and Destiny rank high in disc sales. https://www.someanithing.com/1
Shinn Asuka is also a pretty solid new character. Athrun and Cagalli got very good character development in Destiny. Kira is still kind of a badass and he is much more likeable than someone like Banagher Links.

The hate usually stems from either Universal Century purists who will automatically hate anything from popular from an alternate timeline. Or the typical AniTuber mentality of watching the top 100 anime, only watched the newer series post 2000, and thinking they know everything about gundam when they really don't. I can tell the SEED haters just by the way they put their arguement they barely know anything about Gundam. Those are the same people that says Unicorn and Origin are an excellent starting point. Good thing to show that there is actually quite a few bad series since Destiny that pretty much proves the point that SEED and Destiny years were the high points of Gundam.

Unicorn is especially overrated because it is one of the few Universal Century additions with modern visuals. Only thing that held it together was Sawano and the high production quality and people put it on a pedestal, when its story and characters were bland, forgettable, and unoriginal. Noticed how people who praise unicorn tend to hate on SEED. Origin probably doesn't count because it is meant to tie into 79 which has a brilliant story. Thunderbolt has a slightly better story than Unicorn but it is nothing that memorable. I am pretty sure the only reason Unicorn and its panned movie Narrative were made was to squeeze Universal Century fans out of money for repaints of the same suit, Aka Sinanju stein and phenex.

People also seem to forget that Gundam had a lot of unsuccessful entries before SEED that nearly bankrupted the franchise. F91, Victory (which Tomino himself has public denounced), G Fighter (which stopped stores from ever wanting to restock gunpla). Everything before SEED that isn't in movie form will be unwatchable for modern anime viewers.

We don't have a full cast list but I hope Keith Silverstein voices Durandal. I really didn't like Ted Cole in that role.

I think he might be. Silverstein was tagged at being at a wrap party/screening for the Seed redub and I don't think he actually played anyone in it, so it makes sense they'd have him play Durandal because of the Shuichi Ikeda connection.

I don't think they've ever announced who was going to be in the Seed Destiny rebub.
