Uh, it was a nice review, but isn't there already a review of the GN 1 up? It was put up a couple of months ago.

Sometimes we run alternate takes on a title.

I much prefer the Shana anime to the manga, although to be fair I've yet to read all of the manga. Also been meaning to get my hands on the novels too, which I'll probably get off of Amazon soon enough.

i dont know what the hell is wrong with this reviewer, but don't judge Shakugan no Shana based on solely becuz you see it as a Bleach rip-off. that is incorrect. this series started as a light novel series, which explains why the manga lacks the heavy text in order to explain most of the phenomenons and specifics in the plot. there is nothing wrong with the series itself. its just that since it required the amount of text a light novel series provides, it didn't do much of the explanations on the manga.

i can already see that even if you stated that it was a so-called "Bleach" rip-off and moved it aside, you had a lot of things to say when comparing the properties of the two series. and i still dont see how the two are similar. after all, Bleach is about the afterlife and the theories of life after death. Shakugan no Shana is all about the existences of the people themselves, and how they are consumed by "monsters" from an alternate realm. its totally different.

i will say this one more time. this is a manga BASED OFF a light novel series. that is why it seems to simplified when an overcomplicated plot is introduced. becuz you dont see the differences between the two series, you shouldnt give a poorly done criticism.

I agree with a lot of things in the review - the first volume of the manga left me disappointed to say the least. I may plough through the light novel(s) someday if they show up at my local library.

(character designer Noizi Ito also illustrated the Haruhi Suzumiya novels, so Shana's character clearly plays to his strengths).

If you couldn't already tell by the image in the encyclopedia page you linked to, Noizi Ito is female.

Bleach ripoff?

They started around the same time you know (Bleach started in 01, Vol 1 of the Shana novels was in 02, after at least a yearish of serialization). Even if Bleach was earlier, there wasn't enough material out to rip off (far less than a years worth) by the time Shana came around.

You might want to do some research before throwing out accusations like that...

That's the same question I had...

Neither Bleach nor Shana are the most original of stories and starting a review by calling Shana a ripoff of Bleach? A nice way to piss off Shana fans.

As for the manga itself, I was unimpressed with it at first but towards the end I was liking it. Unfortunately, it was one of those times where the book is over by the time it gets interesting. I'm planning on reading future volumes and I hope they don't disappoint. The anime started off weak before picking up so hopefully the manga will follow a similar route.

Heh, at least he got the character designer right... the other review makes it sound like Ayato Sasakura did the character designs:

Quote:
The character designs by artist Ayato Sasakura favor round-headed, big-eyed, thin-necked, and petite-framed depictions that are slightly more caricaturish than the norm for anime.

Reading comprehension may help here.

The "his strengths" is in reference to the previous statement "but artist Ayato Sasakura seems willing to learn as he goes along". The parenthetical was simply to acknowledge that Noizi Ito had created the original character design. Go back and read the article so you can pick up the context this time.

I also totally disagree with the reviewer Shana is not a Bleach ripoff thats ridiculous. As a huge Shana fan this review is too harsh and if you already are a fan you won't have any problems understanding the words used when discussing the Crimson World. The first was review was much more fair and I look forward to the novel even though I've heard it had lots of edits Anime cry

And thanks for the potshot at the Bible in your review. It makes me all warm and fuzzy when people make unsupported attacks at my religion.

Some of Paul's letters are hard to understand at times, and "dry" by modern standards, but never rambling.

Since the Bleach manga and Shana novels were being published cocurrently, I don't think that calling Shana a Bleach rip-off could possibly hold any water.

I havn't read the Viz Release yet (more likely I have, but due to my goldfish sized memory span I remember non of it), but a friend told me that they replace perfectly written english text with a more or less the same copy in the same font as the rest of the text...

can anyone varify this?

The first sentence certainly didn't help, because only bad first impressions judging from that will have me reading the review.

Unfortunate, but it is pretty true that the explanations come flying in fast and furious to first timers of the Shakugan Universe. That being said, people with better understanding abilities would at least know what's going on. At least that was the impression I got from the reviewer. Razz

Different and varying terms come in to grab interest, not to confuse, so I wonder at how positive the opinion was in regards to that. I don't understand: If this was a Bleach ripoff, shouldn't it be pretty easy to understand? Rolling Eyes

Take your average high school boy, have otherworldly monsters attack him out of the blue, send in a girl to fend off the menace and explain to him how this all works, and finally, give the boy a special power that allows him to exist between the worlds of the living and the dead.

Doesn't make sense to me. I've read the first volume myself (Can't say I was absolutely impressed, but it was still good enough to warrant great interest), and apparently

spoiler[The fact that Yuuji was already dead] seems to have been missed by a mile.... Confused

Let's see... useless boy meet strange girl after being atacked... some how... by a monster... that's the only thing I can think is similar... other way is totally diferent...

Please don't compare this two shows, I'm a huge Shana fan and that really pissed me off, I hate Naruto fans, don't make me hate Bleach fans too

as far as I know, Bleach is shounen and SnS seinen..
