I guess we're finally going to get more into Dessler's relationship with Starsha. Will we see her and Mamoru's child?

Oof. Melda crying.

I don't know if others notice, or care, but these Yamato films look more like a compilation than a feature film. It looks very nice, but it lacks that technical aspect that makes an anime cinematic.

I've really liked all these remakes. Sometimes they feel rushed but the animation is amazing and I think they smooth out some of the story where the old anime just couldn't because of technical issues and translation problems. The battles are grander and the superweapons are truly terrifying in there enormous glory.

I wish they'd put out an English version of this to get. Maybe they'll wait and do a dual release when both movies are out.

And I know this isn't the thread to be saying this but I mention it every time I talk about these Yamato remakes. I wish they'd take this same concept and redo Macross and a few other classics from the past. Legend of the Galactic Hero is slowly being redone, but it's a bit too slow (show was slow as heck to begin with) and I fear it won't make it all the way. But maybe get us a new Die Buster, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Vampire Hunter D (make it a true series, not movie).

we have much better animation technology that could do these series justice, and they are solid stories that could bring back old fans as well as new if they were polished and handled right.

Just my opinion. I'm sure most others probably think this is a bad idea, but I think it would work.

I really hope they don't represent starsha as this holy diety with phisophical talk bout love and bonds like in the 2nd remake project. The real Starsha is actually an alien being with highly advanced scientific technology that came from a different world but still shares human like traits like a real person. Not some cosmic being that exists in all places of the universe. At least leiji's representation of this character was more "real" and relatable.

What did you think of 2202? I've only found time to watch 2199, and loved it, but I've heard the second series had some issues.

Definitely. And it is becoming a bit of a trend, with remakes like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, The Adventure of Dai, Heroic Legend of Arslan, etc. And even arguably stuff like Gundam The Origin (still bitter we didn't get a proper, full adaptation), Dragon Ball Kai, Megalo Box and so on.

And while Macross was very impressive for the time, it could certainly benefit a great deal from an update. I doubt it could look as good as DYRL, but using CGI models to animate the mech sequences alone could potentially make the action much more readable and exciting.

And they could technically base it off of The First, rather than the original show. It was basically a copycat of The Origin--an "updated" manga retelling. The art is GORGEOUS, but I don't know how much it deviates from the original story. I stopped reading it after the 2nd volume because it was too boring--being basically identical to the TV show. If we ever get a new SDF anime, the very least I want to see is for a Minmay to get a proper personality.

It actually deviates from the original series quite a bit once you get further into the manga. Max appears much earlier in the manga, than he does in the series, but is introduced as a Tomahawk destroid pilot. He actually winds up fighting against Quamzin using some very unorthodox maneuvers in his Tomahawk. Milia and Laplamiz are introduced, albeit briefly. There's also some extra events during the Mars base sequence. Unfortunately, the manga is currently on indefinite hiatus since 2016 with the last story arc being a flashback sequence covering an attack on South Ataria Island by Anti-Unification forces. It's frustrating because I was really enjoying the series and was looking forward to seeing how things were going to turn out.
