Is there a reason Shiki's name is consistently italicized? It appears to be a software issue- mistaking the character for a different show.

They are both good storylines and just like with Mashima's earlier work Rave Master is they are all geared towards adventure and comedy, and I am proud to be involved with all three.
Another irony is that in the non-canon manga crossover event Mashima's HERO'S it does a good job and comparing the similarities such as character designs, having similar characters and how they pair the characters who have similar roles/personalities. Incidentally like Rave Master's Haru Glory, both Natsu Dragneel and Shiki Granbell are named after seasons, Natsu was named for Summer (after Haru was named for Spring) and Shiki means "All Seasons". It is also good to know that Rebecca having her own version of Happy is a continuation of the lead female character getting the mascot that belonged to the main character in the previous Mashima series as Lucy's Celestial Spirit Plue is based off Haru's companion Plue from Rave Master. As someone who reads all three Mashima manga I am very happy to be a part of it and will continue to support Edens Zero and the upcoming anime adaption of 100 Year Quest for Fairy Tail (thought it was too bad that Rave Master never got a full anime adaption). |

I find eden zero boring compared to fairy tail, and I think the fact they want a direct comparison is part of the problem. These character don’t have much attachment because you think of their fairy tail counterparts.

Oh yeah, this with the mascot is a really fun touch. 
Agreed, it's a shame they haven't done another attempt at a complete Rave Master, was a really cool show and I've also really enjoyed both all of Fairy Tail and what we've gotten of Eden's Zero so far, excited for next season and also 100 Year One Quest. |

I don't really think I could've said it much better. But I feel the depressing tone of the first few chapters/episodes really flew over a lot of people's heads, especially when it comes to the deaths of robot characters and how some of them happen without the rest of the cast ever knowing. Given Mashima's history, it's very easy to think, "So what? They're just robots, they'll probably get fixed by someone who knows how."
Well, as much as that seemed like a big warning sign at the time, I was still driven by genuine intrigue. What if they can't be fixed? When would the cast find out? How would they respond? Those questions gripped me for a long time, such that I couldn't just drop it over similarities like "Erza's a space pirate now!" or "The main character joins a guild! (...which winds up becoming irrelevant the very next chapter/episode to hammer home how the plot won't be like Fairy Tail!)" That's why I decided to stick it out, if only to satisfy my curiosity. From there, I found myself fascinated by so much more, from the kinds of planets the cast visits, to the ways they help each other through every hardship they endure, to the villains who are so repulsively EVIL that they make Acnologia look like an easy Fairy Tail guild recruit, to probably one of the most creative twists on time travel that I've ever seen him come up with. Maybe my expectations were about as low as any other skeptic's, but after three and a half years, I'm pleased to find the experience has continued to entertain me and keep me guessing in ways both similar to and unlike anything Fairy Tail has done. |

I just caught up with the manga. So far nothing is fundamentally broken, so it's better than Fairy Fail. Honestly, I don't particularly love anything about it, and I can tell it isn't as good as others in the genre, but it's the type of thing I'd enjoy if I were younger.

When it comes character designs Mashima does have a habit of reusing character designs from older series for newer characters. For example Rave Master's Sieg Hart is used for the character design of Jellal of Fairy Tail and Justice of Edens Zero, so it is no surprise that Elsie's character design of based off of Erza. Even though Rave Master's anime adaption ended abruptly at least the full manga series is available in the US digitally courtesy of Kondansha after years of English adaption issues occurring, at least this is one issue to resolve. In this sense I enjoy reading all three Mashima series together and am amazed by the changes in the recent timeskip for Edens Zero. |
