It has been a concern how many anime singers avoided COVID-19 previously but have tested positive since Omicron started spreading. (It is also a concern that there are some Delta cases still present that have potential for more serious lung damage than Omicron but are hard to detect in the flood of Omicron cases, see https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20220125/p2a/00m/0na/006000c ).

Kagayama-san isn't the oldest active anime singer but he is one of the most active older anime singers - hopefully he is fully vaccinated and makes a full recovery.

there's no reason they should if people take measures such as wearing masks and avoid crowds.

I hope he'll recover without any issues

Kageyama may be 60 but he’s in great shape. He’s an avid cyclist/jogger so he’s got that going for him. I hope there’s no lasting damage to his lungs or voice or anything like that.

Unfortunately, somebody with even better pedigree and younger died yesterday:

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Former Olympic gymnastics champion Szilveszter Csollany died Monday at the age of 51 after spending weeks hospitalized with COVID-19, Hungarian sports officials said.

The Hungarian Olympic Committee and the country's gymnastics federation issued a joint statement confirming the death of Csollany, who won a gold medal in the men's rings competition at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also won silver in 1996 in Atlanta and a world championship gold in 2002.

He was a six-time medalist at the European gymnastics championships, and the recipient of Hungary's “Sportsman of the Year” award in 2000 and 2002.

There are other factors at work here. Age and health alone isn't enough of a protection, so there's always some trepidation

Even with taking all the measures, you can still wind up with covid. I'm fully vaccinated, wear masks, and avoid crowds, yet I still managed to get covid just a day shy of a week ago. Thankfully, the worst of the symptoms are gone, but I still have a cough and a slight sore throat.

This is getting out of hand with all these big names. I hope Kageyama recovers with ease.
