That was an interesting read. AnimEigo's Urusei Yatsura tapes were some of my earliest anime on VHS. I still have them and plan to keep them as a memento of my early fandom.
Thanks for the well written article.

This series revival got me interested in the original series so I definitely remember these subs. I'm still not done with it.

Great write up! Robert's definitely a stand-up guy. It's great that the linear notes are still online, but I hope they can be included either with or on the BDs

It's always great to see AnimEigo, MediaOCD, and Discotek working together to really make these high-quality re-releases happen. Seeing their work relationships leading to the bringing these past shows back into relevance for new and old audiences is very nice to see.

I think the last time Robert assisted on a Discotek release for subtitles was with Kimagure Orange Road, and of course the locating of the Project A-Ko masters was huge for the fandom as well. Hopefully we keep seeing awesome work like this continue to be done long into the future!

It's a similar ballgame for re-releasing old video games - thinking of how many issues are shared between industries when attempting to re-release classics (old contracts lost & people not willing to do the leg work to figure things out, people/companies refuse to work with one another, lost source code/scripts/master tapes, people/companies refusing to provide their old translations for re-releases), it's really heart-warming to see good people being able to work through these kinds of problems and work for the benefits of the fans who just want to re-watch or re-play one of their favourites.

Long live all of the fine folks working to make stuff like this continue to happen!

This was an extremely interesting article! I’ve always been curious about what goes into properly subbing an episode and how much work it is.

Love reading this sort of article here. I always love hearing about the process of such things, and it's always a treat to hear from Justin and Robert on the projects they work on.

Was there any mentioning if they've tried to work alongside Viz in any way with the translation tweaking? I know it's "beef bowl" in their manga version as well, which is what made me think of it. Regardless, I'm still majorly looking forward to this release. I've gotten all the Discotek movies already, and I'm happy to grab that TV series as soon as it comes out. I could only afford the first three volumes of the DVD release in years past, so I'm quite excited to make up for lost time.

(Also excited to hear a snippet about Kodocha... Still looking forward to the next set on that one too.)

It was mentioned in the panel itself, but the UY TV release is unable to include any special features, including dubbed episodes, liner notes, etc.
