Well, since Putin's Russia is acting like NAZI Germany at this time, there is probably not that much love for Russian characters.

I could be wrong and this is just some continuity error, but I wouldn't be surprised if the nationality was changed due to the current world crisis either.

Should be noted that was from ch 2. In Ch.1 they were listed as Bulgarian. So it's more of a QC error overall on the manga. The manga was already 3-4 months into being published from the time the war started so I personally doubt it was cause of that seeing how tight manga deadlines tend to be, but I could be wrong.

From Ch1 when the characters are introduced by name.

One can only hope that, should this series get an English dub, that her name be changed to "Ilya Turbinski".

Yes, that's sarcasm, but Ultimate Muscle fans will get the joke.

As a Bulgarian, I can tell you that there is no Bulgarian named "Ilyukhin" unless he has Russian roots. Such name here is practically unheard of.

I am seriously hoping this isn't for the reasons I'm thinking it might be... Does even the concept of a Russian national have to get punished for the atrocities going on in Ukraine right now? If that's the standard, we can drop the pretense of fairness and go all internment camp on the Russians living outside of Russia, while we're at it, You know, like how the US behaved with the Japanese-Americans, and even some Italian-Americans and German-Americans.

This is just nuts.

By the way, she could just be a Dual National.

I kinda feel like this has to just be a continuity error, the manga started at the end of June which was months after the invasion began and even if the chapters were made that far in advance, it would be a simple text change so no redrawing would have to be done.

Him being Bulgarian in chapter 1 is weird though, so maybe that sorta destroys any point I had

We just need to genocide everyone of Russian origin, tbh. Erasing an entire culture because of their goverment's unjust actions is only right!

Maybe you guys should take your outrage up with the idiot along with his enablers/supporters who thinks that taking land that doesn’t belong to his country, invading other countries under overtly bullshit pretenses, and bullying others into submission with nukes are perfectly good ways to make people at home and abroad like you.

Would you ask the same of Americans within the context of Middle East conflicts? Would you ask the same of Israel in the context of Palestine?

*checks the internet* Looks like people do that by the second on the internet. No need for the whataboutism as the "Well america does it" happens on a constant basis. You're not even the first person to do it in this thread.

Maybe they expatriated to Bulgaria?

And does it really matter when everybody looks the same? The anime doesn't exactly take much effort in distinguishing nationalities. This isn't Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Or even Durarara!

I don't give a damn if you like me, pal. I have said enough about the megalomaniac f*ckhead and his supporters. But I've also seen stupid BS said and done with regards to mere Russians running away from Russia, as recent cowardly events at Finland's border, et al, show. I have seen a local business in Oporto having to cover part of its name because it had the word Russia in it. Similarly, I've heard of Uesaka Sumire being attacked online for her affinity with Russian culture. And more importantly, I have actually met both Russians and Ukrainians in my life, and this whole mess is driving me mad.

Or have you not realized that if tomorrow, a dictatorship took over Japan and started invading Korea all over again, we, discussing Anime at ANN Forums, would be seen as enablers, following the same logic.

As such, I don't have the time nor patience for a stupid talking point. And in case you don't understand where I stand on this matter, let me make it clear for you: From Lviv to the Donbas, from Chernihiv to Crimea.

The last time we invaded another country under questionable circumstances was in 2003 and as you may recall or forgotten there was strong and overt opposition to the war at home in it’s early days. And while we caught hell from the international community over it and still do. What Russia has done and been doing in Ukraine is arguably worse.

Now to be fair I’m not entirely on agreement with this creative decision. If it was in fact made over the Ukrainian Invasion as it has the potential to become a slippery slope as not every Russian National or ex-pat has supports Russia on this. But what can you do?

Hmmmmmmmmm I might rabbit I might. As I’m no fan of Israel’s behavior and conduct in that either.

Weird I neither said anything about liking nor hating you.

And again as I said while understand the criticism regarding the blowback towards Russian nationals, ex pats, and people of Russian descent the blame for all this hysteria falls on Putin and his enablers. You can’t fault anyone from distancing themselves from the country and certain aspects. Now if you have people indiscriminately attacking and denigrating these individuals just like what was happening to East Asian individuals at the height of the outbreak that’s something that deserves condemnation.

Which Korea are we talking about the North or South?

Because the former would never happen not unless Japan wants to potentially get double or triple teamed by the North, China, & Russia. U.S. would definitely not allow an Invasion of the South to happen and would more than likely shut it down real quick. And then there’s the likely issue that Japan itself has neither the resources or manpower to do this.

Unless you’d have a Japanese anime studio and it’s employees openly support your hypothetical invasion with the studio’s fanbase in turn supporting their behavior, no we wouldn’t. Since while there is a minority on this forum that has some questionable stances on “certain” topics. We can usually though not always come to a consensus agreement on how supporting dubious entities, policies, or rhetoric can be bad.

Good thing my point wasn’t stupid then.
