So they gonna use a Pikachu for the sake of using a Pikachu. It's not Ash pikachu so why do it?

If i remember correctly there has been at least one Pikachu owner other than Ash in each generation so this one might be 9th gen's one, the question is will this one be a minor rival which will only appears in a handfull episodes like most of them or a regular.
Also today a 7 stars event opposing a Tera Water type Mighty Pikachu starts in S&V so maybe this Captain Pikachu will be Tera Water type ?

Well it’s promotional material for the company at the end of the day. We could have done without pikachu this generation (in the anime) to be honest, and I personally wouldn’t have missed him either. The anime itself needs fresh new ideas, engaging characters, and plenty of new Pokemon.

Back in my day, child protagonists hoofed it through rain and snow without adult supervision, none of this soft chaperone stuff SMH.
It's a shame they didn't go with a female Pikachu.

I figured Pikachu would at least have some presence in the new show.

Pikachu again? Seriously, TPC, this a fresh start, which means a new mascot is in order.

Wonder if it’s still going to be voiced by Ohtani.

Think it’s funny that many people thought they were going to get rid of Pikachu. They’re not going to change the Pokémon that’s featured in pretty much everything related to the franchise

No one thought they were going to get rid of pikachu, but rather give him a bit of a rest. One could accuse the Pokemon company of over exposing people to the character, especially in Japanese advertising. The anime itself does not need to be a promotion of the character, or the character in relation to product. It’s called Pokemon not pikachu-mon. Pikachu was originally just a random Pokemon in Pokemon Red, they decided to make him the stand out character to establish their business, but these have now become ill practices. And this just proves how overly reliant, and mostly obsessed they have become when it comes to marketing with this character. You don’t see Disney sticking Mickey Mouse in every film, cartoon, and series.

Yeah, with or without Ash, Pikachu isn't going anywhere.

Make him the villain.
Make him the rival (peek at cha later, loser!)
Give him to Team Rocket, they worked so hard to get one.
Make him the new pika pika nurse
Make him work as a detective under officer jenny.
Make him an annoying celebrity that just shows up everywhere and people go friggin NUTS when they see him but when you meet him he's kind of a poopyboi.
Make him a reporter for a Pokemon news networks who flies around in a Pikaballoon all the time and checks in on the heroes and reports on some of the bigger events.
Make him an insignificant side character that keeps crossing paths with the protagonists, but make him openly think, and act like, he is the actual hero of the story.
Make him a hot dog seller who has his stand on some street corner in literally every episode and he gets offended if you want your dog without ketchup.
I just wish they didn't put him in the main team....

As long as it has a different personality than Ash’s Pikachu, I’m fine with them keeping him around to serve as the mascot for the brand and there’s precedent for this with Detective Pikachu and other characters like Ritchie had their own Pikachu in the show.
