Wow, if it weren't for the PS4 version of Hogwarts' Legacy the entire Top 30 would be composed of Switch games. That says a lot about the state of the PS5 in Japan, despite the somewhat good hardware sales the software side is pretty barren. Next week we will know Street Fighter 6's numbers, but I don't expect much, fighting games outside of Smash and Tekken don't tend to sell well in Japan these days and it obvious that Capcom is thinking more about the game's global sales
But regarding future PS5 software, there's been some rumors that Square-Enix is worried about Final Fantasy XVI's performance, saying that the games pre-orders are lower than those of FFXV, and in Japan the preo-orders have been some of the lowest for a mainline title. It's kind of incredible how Zelda used to be a game series that didn't do so well in its native Japan but now it can sell over a million copies in less than a month, but on the other hand Final Fantasy seems to struggle in Japan where it used to sell millions of copies.

That's not too surprising. It being PS5 only really hurts it. I myself will never be getting a PS5 so I'm waiting until the PC version comes out. I imagine it'll pick up steam (no pun intended) when it stops being a timed exclusive.

The pre-order rumor is that pre-orders are worse than FF15's PS4 only numbers.

What does PS4 only numbers mean? You could just say it's worse than FF15, which launched only on PS4, assuming you are only referring to Japanese sales.

The Xbox is practically a non entity in Japan, so it refers to XV's preorder numbers for the PS4 back in 2016 in Japan. Just recently a video was uploaded where some journalists adressed Square's concerns about FFXVI's sales, the main points were that preorder culture has died down in recent years, S-E has a history of unrealistic expectations for game sales, XVI hasn't been marketed nearly as hard as FFXV, the game has to compete against Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6 and Diablo IV, etc. To be clear, most people think FFXVI will receive excellent reviews by critics, the soon to be released demo will give the game more exposure and the initial sales will be fine, but it's not going to break records like TotK did on Switch and in Japan it'll probably have the lowest debut for a mainline FF in years.
