Hell yeah. The good SAO is getting a sequel at last. And with the same staff to boot.

Awesome! This was a really fun spinoff. The main series is great, but sometimes you just really want to watch people play esports with little to no stakes.

Wow, the best "SAO" news and it isn't about SAO! Normally my reaction is "yeah, yeah, another lame cash grab from the same mediocre writer of SAO Progressive" Didn't know Mr. Sigsawa did a whole series, so can't wait...

Does this follow the manga or the light novel. The manga ended and the light novel is still going so I was just wondering.

Not a big fan of SAO AGGO, got bored when I tried to watch it weekly and dropped it, but still went back to it and watch the rest in 1 go after it ended and it was fine Very Happy

Still good to see more season of this coming out since the light novel was not finished.

Plus Its always good to have more SAO while we wait for Main SAO to come out. it keep the popularity going and give more time for Reki to write more main series without any rush lol

it seems there gonna be more LN Spin-off by other authors too in the same universe as SAO soon.

seems like they going for SAO-Cinamtic Universe xD can't blame them since it's their most successful light novel series in the last decade.

Oh look SAO hate is on the menu again. I wonder where it's been all these years. Rolling Eyes

FYI: I'm by no means an SAO fan, it's just that if there was thing that got annoying real quick it was taking cheap shots against SAO like Mother's Basement did.

I imagine this going to happen when Vigilantes gets an anime adaptation. People saying "tHe bEttEr MHA" while being insufferable about.

Oh hell yeah! I had a lot of fun with this series! I even forked over way too much cash for the Aniplex figure of Llen. Embarassed

I wouldn't call myself a huge Sword Art Online fan, but I've watched both SAO and Alternative Gun Gale Online. It takes me a while to watch anime movies, so I still haven't gotten around to Ordinal Scale, but I do want to watch it someday. I've never seen the Progressive films either, but frankly, I'm not in a rush to see those now... if ever. When the first Progressive movie was announced, it did catch my interest, and when the second film was announced, I remember thinking, "When the time comes, I'll watch these back to back."

However, when I learned that the second Progressive movie would skip some of the light novels, I lost interest. You see, I liked the premise of an Aincrad story where we follow the protagonists in chronological order, one floor at a time, instead of how the original light novels skipped around. For the film series to drop that premise after 1 movie, even if they someday go back, that was enough to convince me that a retelling wasn't worth my time. If they'll skip stuff once, they'll do it again.

Their rationale for skipping volumes was hardly convincing, which was icing on the cake. If you can't animate the next chronological story right now, that doesn't mean you have to skip it. I remember thinking, "If you're dead set on milking the SAO franchise, and you absolutely *have* to release more anime right now, make a sequel to Alternative Gun Gale Online instead. There's plenty of light novel material to adapt."

So yeah. I would have been happier to see this announcement a few years ago. Now? I'm feeling pretty indifferent. I don't wanna write it off completely, because S1 was enjoyable, but I'm still pretty sour about the SAO franchise as a whole. It might depend on what else is airing when this comes out, as I already struggle to watch everything that I'm interested in when a new anime season premieres.

Man I'm a big fan of SAO Light Novels (not the anime tbh) and I can't agree with you more on this...
SAO Progressive light novels is great and one of my top 5 light novels
I still remember when it was originally announced that we gonna get SAO Progressive project Me and 2 other friend were playing World of Warcraft and as soon as the trailer for SAOP was released we got so hyped and happy we literally log off on the spot and went to talk and hype about it on the sao wikia discord. it was such a hype and excitement...

but then it was revealed that they decided to make it a movie... and then we see new characters and changed plot... and then the icing on the cake was for the reveal at the end of the first movie release in japan, that next floor skip to Floor 5 (Volume 4) instead and skip Floor 2 and 3 and 4 completely...... so much light novel content skipped...

I lost so much interest that I still did not watch the 2nd SAOP movie...

Funny thing is... even Floor 1 stuff from first movie had some of the bad changes that original SAO anime had when they adapted SAO Aria story from the light novels way back in 2012... like come on... you redid the same Aria story and adapted it 2 time and it still include some of the silly stuff you added in anime and still not go with the superior LN version...

Anyway, I never read AGGO light novels but hopefully the anime adaptation of it will be good.
