One of likely 18 series to do so but Kingdom should join the club this year leading to 19:

S3 was one of MAPPA´s first gigs and co-produced with Madhouse, the company it emerged from, who did the rest. Volume 61 chapter 558 is where it ends. Volume 139 chapter 1427 released this week. Imagine if such a longrunning anime ended up only featuring 1/4 or less of the manga! "The series is his only manga". Nope. He has 2 failed 2 volume sports manga from the 80s outside of at least 3 other one-shots but those are gravy of course. Kazuya Now and Signal Blue. |

And, of those two failed series, Kazuya Now is the one where the late Kentaro Miura got his start in manga as a (short-lived) assistant to Morikawa, before Morikawa told Miura that he was already good enough to start making his own manga. |

He say half way, but people seem to also missed that he said the final half will be twice as fast. Most boxers in the series have retired. Takamura needs 3 more weight classes and once Ippo goes back to fighting he will quickly go up the world rankings. The other Kamogawa gym members will probably get the titles too but outside of Sendo and Miyata, that's it for other boxers. I mean Wally of all people is essentially done now.

Well, Berserk still goes on. In a satisfactory way no less but the gaps in Kouji´s knowledge of how the pieces fit already shine through. Most series with a dead author, regardless of the medium, aren´t as lucky of course so no complaints and the art and compositions are only getting better.
Guin Saga was frankly niche by the time its author died and replacements were found. It´s why the anime speed ran 16 volumes (!) within just 26 eps. Maybe a record? Golgo 13 on the other hand comes close to being the face of Seinen in Japan. There was no ongoing plot to continue of course and the assistants essentially took over the mange during Takao Saito's final years anyway. Oh well, AI writers are the future. Year is 2057. George Morikawa finishes inking the final panel of the final chapter of Hajime no Ippo at the age of 92. He whispers "my work is done." and flat lines on his death bed. Everyone looks over to see the final page and panel...It's George himself sitting in the corner of a boxing ring slumped over in the Ashita no Joe pose.
and its just says "fin" |
