I was actually having a lot of fun with the show right up until the Holmes/Moriarty thing came up. Which, I get it, mystery series and all. But not EVERYTHING has to have that connection and I’ve since lost all interest, so I stopped watching. Maybe the twist would be worth it if I kept going, but as it was mentioned in the review, I’d rather just rewatch Moriarty the Patriot.

This isn't the best written mystery show, but the leads are fun enough for me and I'm looking forward to season 2.

I wholeheartedly agree with Rebecca’s review of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions, especially when it comes to Toto being a bumbling baboon who can’t do anything more than clean up behind Ron. I’m not entirely convinced he knows how to do that without Ron first giving him the play-by-play.
The main thing that could’ve made this show a little better is if Ron and Toto began dating. (To be fair, just about any show would be better to me if the two handsome guys began dating  ). I also wouldn’t mind seeing more attention being paid to the details, like shorts or pants length remaining consistent throughout the episode (this is a pet peeve of mine with just about every anime these days). At least then I’d be willing to stick around for season two.

I had my fingers crossed for a new long-ish runner by Akira Amano, but I suppose it would have been too much to expect anything on the level of Reborn. Then again, that could be the rose-tinted glasses talking, and any "quality" Reborn had was men in impeccably tailored outfits who should probably be dating.
I recall a similar verdict handed down to HaruChika, which is one of my all-time faves, so I think my tolerance for "quirky" mysteries is just higher. I'll try to squeeze this one onto my queue before season 2. |

Yeah. Akira Amano's designs often seem to fit more to the shojo demography especially with the handling of the main duo. It feels like if they don't fit with the main tone so they often get something to make it fit. In Reborn's case, Tsuna felt like a really forced character until he was given that Dying Will Bullet that makes him look like a Super Saiyan when facing Mukuro Rokudo.
When it comes to Amano's designs in Psycho-Pass, she didn't write the story but I remember hearing Kogami and Makishima were ridiculously popular within the female demography to the point Akane's actress teased something about the 2014 as Kogami has quite a developed abdomen. |

If you think Toto's supposed to be stupid in this, I'd really like an exhaustive accounting of how many of the cases you solved before the reveal. They *were* largely solvable, but any normal detective would have taken much longer to go through all the evidence to work it out.
Let's be generous and include anything where what actually happened was at least *one* theory you had, even if you had others, but it has to have been the whole thing, not just a few parts of it. Zero? Is the answer zero? I was *mostly* there on several of them, but I was never 100%, and a lot of them I had a week to think about. Most of us who are pretty smart would still struggle to keep up with the pace any given Sherlock-style super-detective solves things. The idea that Toto's intended to be an idiot instead of just a normal person trying to keep up feels like it requires some willful misreading of the circumstances. I get the idea that murder mystery comedy might not be for everybody, but this part was ridiculous. |

The opening video downright feels like a black comedy now that you mention it. The song is good but in the video the two detective run around dead bodies while they play a really cheerful song. |
