Honestly, I admire him for listening to his body and not working himself to death. He deserves a good retirement.

Just like in sports he took time to listen to his body and observe what was around him. After taking all of it he decided it's time to end. Bow out with a smile Mr. Takahashi, you deserve it.

To be honest with cases like this, I'm surprised creators who do both art and writing/story don't team up with people to handle the parts they physically can't do. Its the same question I often ask myself regarding things like HxH and Togashi.
But 40 years is a long run. He deserves to be able to finish his story on his own terms without feeling bad. |

It's a shame we won't get a series with Tsubasa, Hyuga and co. playing against aliens in a galactic soccer tournament, but Takahashi is a legend who deserves some rest.

Very wise decision! He stopped at the right time. Looking to many authors which couldn't end their works due to their deaths.

Huge respect and gratitude from an old timer fan that met Tsubasa in late 80's.
But don't forget that only half of Tsubasa's story was released outside Japan, for the luckiest countries that had a translation of the World Youth chapter in late 90's - early 2000. That makes 57 volumes out of 110 at best. Road to 2002, Golden 23, In Calcio, En La Liga, Rising Sun and Memories were never released outside Japan. So I sadly believe that announcement won't have the impact it deserves. Even with the Junior Youth anime, some people were surprised to learn that the manga was still ongoing. There's a strange taboo about Tsubasa's sequels not being released from Japan, even from the press. The only official way to follow the story is to play the story mode of Captain Tsubasa Dream Team, which includes nearly all those sequels. |
