Nintendo's domination over Japan continues.

Also, why wasn't Final Fantasy released for PS4? Did Sony really think that locking FF up in PS5 jail would increase that console's sales?

Don't get me wrong, Rebirth will probably have good sales, but I wouldn't be surprised if, somewhere down the line, we got a report of Rebirth not ensuring a proper return of investment for SE. I know that some people will probably blame inflation for this, but let's face it, game development has become very expensive in recent years.

Wow, Rebirth had he biggest second week drop for a FF game in Japan at 90,68%, the previous record holder was Remake at 89,95%, interestingly XVI's 2nd week drop was only 88,76%. Not to mention that, according to Famitsu's website, FFVII Rebirth has plenty of unsold stock. On the opposite side, Unicorn Overlord was severely understocked, so much in fact that Atlus apologized and promised to print more copies.

Especially considering that Nintendo managed to sell 3.336 more units compared to last week and 5.997 more than the same week from last year, and we're talking about a console that just turned seven years old.

From what I've seen, Rebirth has some issues running on the base PS5 hardware, Square-Enix (and Sony) probably wanted Rebirth to take advantage of the PS5's capabilities, but it seems that isn't enough, especially seeing how there's talks about a PS5 Pro on the way and that the third game in the Final Fantasy VII remake project will have to be bigger considering S-E developers will have to include the Highwind to traverse the game's world seamlessly. But for better or for worse, S-E has positioned the mainline Final Fantasy games as technical showcases, and with game development costs rising as you mentioned, I think S-E has hit the point of diminishing returns.
At this point I don't what will happen. S-E hasn't said anything about Rebirth's sales numbers, which is weird considering they revealed Remake and XVI's numbers just a couple of days after they released. I don't think the game will arrive on other consoles anytime soon, people have said that the FF games aren't attracting any new players despite the positive reception the game has received, etc. I pray that the third game's development will be faster than the second one, I think 4 years is way too much time for the third game to arrive.

Assuming people haven't jumped on it already, I actually highly recommend Unicorn Overlord.

The team building is amazing and let's you be so creative: I actually recruited a level 40 character by beating their quest chain at around level 20-25 on expert difficulty, so it's clear that there's more emphasis on putting a good team together that uses all the game mechanics than just mindlessly making the numbers go up.

Game is kind of easy to break, but incredibly fun to do so since there's so many broken things you can do that are actually interesting.

This feeling is quite nice after the bad taste GBF Relink's endgame left in my mouth where I was just funneled into specific character builds (though maybe there's some postgame content in here that's stupid that I'm not aware of, but right now everything feels cool since I get to experiment a bunch without having to grind for days).

Got the game on Switch and the performance seems stable enough, but being handheld in particular is convenient since I'm like lying in bed messing with my teams and their auto battle programming a bunch.

As for Final Fantasy, I am actually one of those people that's willing to wait on the PC releases at this point... I'm rebuying FF XVI, so I might as well wait on Remake part 2 to hit PC as well even though all the waifu simulation I've vaguely seen is really tempting.

"Your people were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think If they should." I've had this thought for the longest time as a PC gamer when I saw what it would take to run games smoothly at 4K. I've settled on 1440p and I have no interest in 4k just from a cost perspective. The same seems to apply to making games this way as well. I think we are finally hitting the "end game" in terms of "realistic" graphics for gaming in what can be made in a timely fashion without costing too much. I feel like the second crash of the video game industry could happen in the next 5 years and the only ones to survive it will be the conservative ones like Nintendo and Indie devs/publishers.

Oh yeah, talking about this issue. I find it a bit disappointing that the console version of Dragon's Dogma 2 is supposedly going to run at 30FPS, and supposedly an unstable one at that.

Unsure why there won't be a performance mode for console players.

Not that I wasn't going to get it on PC anyway where I can brute force any performance issues, but there's this weird emphasis on making the picture look better at the expense of nicer performance. DD is an action game, so the higher framerates serve the gameplay better.

I hate on Granblue a lot, but the performance for all the shit happening onscreen was incredible. It kinda has that last-gen look, but the spectacle and responsiveness was amazing to me.

I think in terms of like modern games I've played, Tekken 8 is the ideal: that game looks incredible, but also has very smooth performance (since it's played competitively, so you can't be having random drops here and there, so they optimized the hell out of it).

I don’t really see more willing to spend money companies biting the dust like Activision, EA, Microsoft, Sony etc maybe more willing to be more conservative in their spending.

Not to mention independent companies especially in the U.S. would be no better off in the event of a crash than the major ones. A lot of these companies put out some cheap not very good looking games and should be culled.

And this is “if” a second crash happens. People have been predicting this happening since the 10’s.

Expected drop since it was a sub 300k opening. Supaidaman 2 getting to 300k in 2 weeks depending on how it holds.

If you weren't so obsessed with saying "Nintendo domination in Japan continues" every time you post in this article, you would have done the research (not needed if you've been the following video games since the 2000's at least) before posting to know that Square moves on from the previous console gen to make their biggest titles, in this case FF, exclusive to next gen. Instead, you're asking outdated questions and making ignorant slanderous statements about Sony all because you know nothing.

Once again spreading misinformation. Nothing new. Remake released on April 10th. Square announced its sales on April 21. XVI released on June 22. Square announced its sales on June 28. If you are not good at math, ask someone to help you.
