I'd like to know what manga it was that got him in trouble. It's very possible he had shota or lolicon manga, but maybe the postal service officer maybe over reacted? I'm only saying this because I've over people saying how all anime/manga characters look like kids.

I'm pretty sure he had some lolicon manga there, but then again, depending on the people who did the raid, maybe he was caught with Ikkitousen or Air master
 or anything with fanservice :S

Whether I approve or disapprove, I would hate to think that this guy might go to jail for 20 years for having so-called obscene manga. Calling something obscene is basically saying something is so bad or horrible that no one should be able to see it. In other words its just censorship. Seems to me like another case of someone pushing their own moral judgments. I just wish there were more specific details about the manga or mangas in question.

The man could face 20 years? That's just insane. There are many child rapists who got far less than that! Madness.
I'm all for protecting children and all that but these kind of laws do nothing but infringe upon basic rights. Drawings are not people and to treat someone like this over nothing more than comics and cartoons? Sheer lunacy. And there appears to be no reason beyond the fact that be bought some "questionable" manga from Japan for this investigation to even have started! What threat to society does this man pose? |

That's exactly right. I don't care if the manga has images of baby Jesus being tentacle raped. Drawings are not criminal, period. To take away a real person's rights over drawings of imaginary people is both unthinkable and unconstitutional. |

This part has always seem weird to me. IF the manga was in fact lolicon manga, shouldn't this criteria be the one getting him off the hook? I mean, for the inspectors to be able to tell that the image in the manga was in fact a minor, it means the artist was able to represent a child in an accuarate enough way to be recognized as a such. Doesn't that require artistic skill? Or am I missing something? |

I have a feeling that this guy will get off the hook. I guess it is a good thing that this case is happening though. If he wins then he sets a example for any similar cases in the future. Same if he loses. So I guess it will be good to clarify the laws of this stuff. Will ANN be keeping us updated on the case?
On a similar note, you dont think it was Kodomo no Jikan he was caught with do you. I mean that is hardly anything to get too upset over. So if that was the case it looks like somebody was just trying to start something. |

Since there was a postal inspection, does that mean he bought these overseas?
I was going to say if he bought this in a store in the US then this is insane. If not then it is still is pretty bad. I mean the have 7 computers. If they couldn't find any real life CP on those then this guy is really getting shafted. |

Wow, this is... absolutely retarded. So, if they find my porn containing slightly underaged boys, I could go to jail? OH JOY. The part about not having "merit" is a load of BS as well. Talk about being opinionated.
It's almost like whoever wrote that part of the code has never been on the internet.

I have to say this is potentially very scary, depending on how they rule and the precedent set in this case.
Worse case scenario, it could mean a crackdown on nearly all h-doujin, h-manga, h-anime, ecchi in anime/manga, fanservice in anime/manga, as well restrictions on importing anime/manga goods from Japan. That is not including what the Feds could do on the internet if they start lumping anime/manga sites left and right in with CP. Best case scenario, CBLDF wins the case and sets a precedent that protects anime/manga if any future lawsuits occur. Hopefully if he gets charged it's for hard-core lolicon manga which is at least a focused subject matter and would limit the damage in future cases, though I feel sorry for the guy who got caught up in this. I also sincerely hope the mainstream media overlooks this case (since it's so rare to hear anything supportive), considering I could see it doing way more harm then good for the reputation of anime/manga fans. This again? I'm assuming it's loli or something but everytime they've tried to arrest someone for loli (except that guy who was viewing it in a public place) it's been ruled unconstitutional since it doesn't harm anyone..
This will probably end up the same way...unless it's guro-loli...then he'll probably need to see a psychologist |

This is a disgusting thing to happen. I feel sorry for this guy, having all his 1200 manga volumes taken and his 7 computers! I bet they weren't removed with care either. How terrible.
On top of that, the prospect of 20 years, just for importing some cartoon porn? I wonder if it's anyone from some anime forum. It has to be. |

I call shenanigans on the US government. H-manga are comics story + art so that automatically says they are protected by the bill of rights. this guys going to get off...out of prison.
