And all three of which can enjoy either a slow and painful mutation into a crappy battle manga or a quick and bloody execution for the crime of not being a crappy battle manga.

You realize most new series that have done well in Jump Lately have NOT been battle manga. The recent battle manga like Barrage and Takamagahara were in the bottom of the rankings from pretty much the first chapter, whereas new series that have done well are Assassination Classroom and Nisekoi, the first of which (which is consistently making top 3 in the rankings) is a gag/school life manga and nisekoi is a romantic comedy

Masahiro Hirakata will debut the Shinmai Fukei Kiruko-san "hilarious comedy" manga series in the magazine's 51st issue on November 19, and Shun Saeki and Yūto Tsukuda will debut the Shokugeki no Sōma cooking manga series in the magazine's 52nd issue on November 26.

There is going to be a cooking manga series appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump? That is all kinds of awesome!

Looking forward to the molecular-gastronomic action!!!

I don't think this is the first time WSJ has had a pure cooking manga. And then there's Toriko, which is a Battle Manga centered around food and cooking

It's important to note that Hungry Joker won the Golden Future Cup: the same one-shot contest that both Beelzebub and Nurarihyon no Mago won, leading to successful serializations.

Whoa, really??

Don't mind Conan-san though. Probably just read a little too much Bakuman. lol.

I can't think of a better time to use this than Joker's tagline...

Unfortunate for me. I was really liking Takamagahara. It had a fun appeal which was a good mix of comedy and battle, sort of like Beelzebub. Maybe that was it's downfall though. Too similar of a genre.

I think Nurarihyon no Mago already got cancelled by Jump and moved to another magazine. Beelzebub is probably the next one on the cutting block. New fighting manga are not doing good in Jump.

There are so many manga got cancelled in Jump this year, there is no talent that can create the next OP, Naruto, or Bleach.

Nura was transferred so that it could receive a proper ending and make room for a new series at the same time. It was doing poorly in the weekly polls for a long time before it was transferred. Jump was actually fairly lenient on Nura due to its past success.

Weekly Shounen Jump is a ruthless magazine. It's hard for a new series to find a foothold. A lot of series get cancelled every year (although this year was actually kind to new series). On the other hand, being in the same mag as other high-profile series means the rewards (volume sales, anime, etc.) are that much higher if you do succeed. All the manga-ka know going in it's a high risk, high reward situation.

--------------------------------

As for the 3 new series, Shinmai Fukei Kiruko-san is probably going to have the hardest time because the other two are anticipated serializations. Takamagahara has already been cancelled to make room, Koisome Momiji probably will as well and it looks like Reborn might be ending to free up a space. Plus it looks like Hunter x Hunter might return in early 2013, so something else will have to go eventually...

I have read one shot of Hungry Joker and unfortunately it was bad.It was all the same Shonen stuff we see every day and I think everyone is bored with it.There are roomers that, that cooking manga is being drawn "tosh" who mostly does hentai. Now I am really looking forward to seeing it.

Can't say I know these authors or that any of these title descriptions are automatically grabbing my interest, but as a pretty big SJ fan, I'll keep my eyes on these to see what they become.
