Mainichi Shimbun made a specific point of saying that the Wii mini will continue being produced for overseas, but not the original Wii. The Wii will continue be sold, just not produced.

For one its ran its course and two this might be a good way for more people to move to the Wii U, especially if they want a new console. If they want it "family friendly" the Wii U is their best option.

Read: "Please don't look for a Wii and buy a Wii U!"

Don't get me wrong, I liked Wii a whole lot (which did run its course) and really do think the world of Wii U and what it is capable of, but Nintendo dropped the ball so ******* hard in rolling the it out. With little to no type of effort in outreach and generating public interest, much less differentiating it from its predecessor, it's no surprise to see Nintendo now trying as hard as they have been in getting people to move onto the next phase.

I'm a long-time fan of the company, too, but between the 3DS launch and Operation Rainfall (more of a NOA problem, but still) to the repeated mistakes with Wii U's launch and the stumbles in support both internally and via third parties, I don't really get why Nintendo has been shooting themselves in the foot these past few years (please don't tell me they were depending primarily on word-of-mouth and "explaining to grandma"…). I hope they manage to pull it all together in 2014, but it's been very questionable stretch thus far…

It makes more sense to keep producing the regular Wii (reduce the resell price to $50) or to not produce either the regular or Mini at all (Wii games no longer being produced).

Well I mean you must be everyone.

Well I guess it had an ok run. Mine basicly collected dust in between Xenoblade and NMH. But Xenoblade was really good that it almost made up for the system.

Too bad the WiiU seems like a big failure so far.

6 years and 11 months too long.

The Wii should have never been released. Iwata may have felt confident consumers weren't ready for HD, but he seriously underestimated developers, who were more than ready.

What a waste.

I'm not much of a gamer, but this is bittersweet I guess. I don't have as many memories playing the Wii as I do the GameCube, PS2, or the old SNES, but I do have fond memories playing Wii games like Brawl, creating Miis and using it's (admittedly crappy) internet browser. When I leave the house, I just might take my mom's and find use for it myself (it's black!)!

Nintendo effectively ended the wii's run at least 3-5 years ago. Outside of the rainfall games and Skyward sword there really were no new games for the system in years. So this just making it a formality.

Not surprising and totally predictable. They need to push prospective buyers to the Wii U. Nevertheless, it had a good run.

Well, I guess there are still some Wii's around but hell you can barely get any accessories with them since the WiiU is around.

The Wii has managed to get a lot of casual gamers interested in consoles, being more suited to "fun for all the family" than the other consoles.

I guess a lot people who did buy them are still playing things like Wii Sports & haven't thought about buying another console yet.
