Well that's not surprising, even though Kirito and Asuna has to be the most boring couple I've seen.

Once again a useless poll out of Japan that pretends to be a list of the "best", but in reality just lists what is popular right now.
I wish ANN would ignore such polls. It's bad enough when they appear on Sankaku Complex. |

While it unsurprisingly skews towards popular and recent, it's hardly limited to things that are "popular right now". Certainly CLANNAD, Toradora!, Gundam Seed Destiny, or The Garden of Sinners don't qualify as "right now" as their popularity is from years ago. A few others such as Durarara!!, and Hyouka are similarly a stretch. |

My comment of "popular right now" was pretty much squarely aimed at you-know-who. But also, as you say these sorts of polls generally skew towards recent franchises.
No, I'm irritated that many of the couples on this list are hardly deserving at all, especially the winners who actually have one of the worst relationships for MCs in anime history. Imagine a fan poll in 2003 that said Padme and Anakin were the best couple in movie history. That's the level of fail we're talking about here.

You can argue about the others, but Kirito and Asuna definitely are the "best." All the others have so damned much drama, but they are a couple that just love each other, admit it to themselves almost immediately, and then spend the rest of their time together or trying to be together, rather than that usual BS where they spend dozens, if not hundreds of episodes keeping their feelings bottled up.

The problem I have is that many of these "couples" are not official couples. They are moreover what the fans want and are not necessarily canon, at least not yet.

Personally, I think the Gintama couples are not so great. Mostly because one's not canon, and I personally have other pairings. Hahaha. :3
But seriously, KamiKoto needs to be #1. Always.  Though I'd have to say one of my favorite pairings in anime is Shiho and Sakaki from Zettai Karen Children.

Asuna literally has no future other than being Kitiro's damsel in distress. Hitagi, meanwhile, would scare the s*** out of most men. Not saying she and Koyomi are the best couple, but there's a lot more balance in that relationship. Simply loving each other doesn't make a good couple - it all comes down to the chemistry of the two characters. |

Touma and Misaka aren't even technically a couple. Kirito and Asuna's relationship is extremely flat and one dimensional. Araragi and Senjogahara's relationship is nice and enjoyable whenever they're together, but it's hardly ever explored outside of one episode.
