The costumes look great but the first 27 volumes of the manga? How much does that cover?

It covers the Kakashi Gaiden and just before Part II.

Well, at least we know it'd look totally creepy in live-action form. Laughing

The costumes look fantastic; the cast looks as if they've just endured a challenging, lengthy battle.

I still find it awesome that Naruto's actor played a younger Blue Buster from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, Sasuke's actor played a monster of the arc in Kamen Rider Fourze, and Gaara's actor played Inazuman in a couple of Kamen Rider related films. Whoever is the casting director, good job.

I'll be the first to admit how little live action films I watch, but this looks and sounds like it may be the exception.

I love when they can add little details to the costumes that'd be too time-consuming and/or costly to depict in manga or anime.

I can't imagine going to see a Naruto musical -- especially one covering that much manga (are we talking "Der Ring des Nibelungen" length here???) -- but those costumes really look great, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the characters. I only wish American superhero movies would adapt the look of their source material as faithfully. (And yes, some do, but many don't.)

Costumes are great, but the actors are way too old to play four 12 year olds. Naruto's is 17, Sasuke's is 19, and Sakura and Gaara's are 20. I know they'd have trouble with labor laws casting a musical this long with children, but I think it would look better if they jumped to the second series instead.

I totally agree with you. This is the main reason why I feel "meh" when I see typical cosplay costumes. You just can't feel the character and environment that cosplayer is supposed to represent.

I think all cosplay costume makers should look at these professional theatrical costumes as inspiration rather than just copying off from manga page or anime screen as it is.
