I think this is very likely to happen soon.

Besides their cancerous yellow subs, rushed and inadequate dubbing, cheap packaging, and equally cheap production values?

The question really should be, why do people like Sentai? And no, "They pick up my favorite shows" isn't an answer.

I also ask myself the same question. They used to do a lot of rushed and lousy dubs, and a couple of their releases had QC issues. But they have cleaned their act.

Sentai is my favorite company because they tend to license niche anime and sleepers. Their CE releases are quite nice. Even their dubs have improved significantly.

How can I not like Sentai?

That's a perfectly reasonable reason (pun intended). Most of the stuff they license would not get licensed at all otherwise.

Maybe I should just start having my paychecks direct deposited into sentai's bank account Razz

This series has actually grown on me especially when they had added in some drama.

COME ON BLURAY RELEASE!!!

I generally like that they get shows that I am not sure would be gotten otherwise. As far as their releases go, I don't consider them my favorite(that would probably be NIS America), but I usually don't have too many complaints(at least not as of now).

I'm saying given the option, out of all the studios to license your show, would you choose Sentai?

I think they're over priced, I REALLY don't like the idea that they are putting 13 episode series on one BD. A lot of times they just use copy paste subs from Crunchy which are often glorified speed subs.

I appreciate that they are looking out for the niche genre, but I still think someone would have grabbed Nozaki or Engaged to the Unidentified if they weren't around. They seem to just grab everything they can and see what sticks later. It might be great if you're not into high quality releases, It just doesn't feel like they put a lot of love or time into them.

Agree on all three counts: They churn out so many diverse titles each month, but they prove a great foil to Funimation controling the entire dub market. Even if you don't like their dubs, the content of their releases is improving. Chunibiyo season one is also one of the most beautiful and extra-laden sets I have ever bought.

Well I refuse to purchase anything Aniplex over those prices. Those are out of this world. But Sentai charges the same price for a normal release as Funi's LE releases.

They have some of the more affordable releases though. Now I could argue that the quality isn't the best as you somewhat attempt to, but I certainly wouldn't say the pricing is too high.

I doubt they just pick things randomly and hope it works out, if that is what you are implying. I can't say for sure, but I would think that Sentai, as a business, is a lot more methodical than that. And of course, to your statement about other companies getting Nozaki or Engaged to the Unidentified: sure, but are most of what they licensed things that other companies would jump at necessarily? I can't say I know the answer for sure, but I don't think citing two examples makes the idea that they get shows no one else would not true.

Edit: Are you sure? I thought Sentai releases generally were around $60, while Funimation Limited editions are around $70?

I get that they sometimes employ the old "slap on a rushed English dub just so we can say we have one" method but from my experience for shows that they actually give a damn about (i.e really popular shows that are worth putting money into) they still have the ability to make at least above-average dubs. Bluray quality isn't amazing but not bad enough to warrant getting really upset about.

The only really bad thing I think about them off of the top of my head is their apparent screening policy. I'd asked the president of my college's anime club a couple of weeks ago if we should have Nozaki-kun be our new comedy show for our weekly screenings, since we'd shown the first episode during our April Fool's meeting and everyone had loved it. She'd then told me that while they really wanted to they weren't allowed to show anything past the first episode. When I asked her why she just said "because Sentai" and moved on to the next topic. Not sure about the particulars but if it's true then that just sucks.
