And that's one of the most interesting things I find about Gate so far this season. It's the military and technology that seems realistic enough and often quite fascinating in the way they are used.

Quote:
"The real battle has yet to begin. Please look forward to further adventures with Itami and his friends."

Now I'm even more excited.

to bad of all the bloodless action though.
The show is not bad, but because is stays away from anything even remotely gritty it is really doing a disservice to itself.

The "gritty realism" of battle without blood.

Uh... yeah. Maybe not.

The only thing I thought was particularly realistic is the gear they have, but that's far from unique to this anime.

I have to agree, the gritty part doesn't come across without the blood.

quoting Osawa Nobuhiro, ANN wrote:

I know what the meaning of the sentence was, but it still pretty damn funny.

their camouflage uniforms

Where's the digicam? It's all olive drab instead... Sad

Also, I agree that the weapons and gear is probably the most realistic part of this anime, as the politics are absurd and fall flat on their face.

The show features an outside hot spring/baths made on a military base. Is that actually something the JSDF makes, or is it creative license?
Otherwise, the soldier details all seem realistic. And I have to agree, it's the contrast between a realistic modern day military force and a fantasy world that makes this show compelling.

Still, could do without orgasmic lolis! Laughing

She's not a loli, she's a goth loli.

I guess that it's important to hide that this was not originally a webnovel but a light novel,

Actually, Gate began as a series of self published web novel, that was later picked up for publication as a series of full novels after it became popular on the site that hosted it. The original web novel was removed prior to this publication, as it was rewritten to change the ending and remove some overly "poisonous" political commentary to appeal to a larger audience.

The success of that novel series is what spawned the subsequent manga version, the LN version (which is just the novel version split into smaller books with simpler writing and some illustrations), and now the anime.

At least the article got the name of the author right!

Is Rory actually a loli? I know Itami called her a goth loli when he saw her, but I mean usually loli's are noticeably shorter, flatter, and very young looking right? The first two don't really seem to apply. There are some outliers, but I want to say she is fairly average in both compared to the other female characters. Some shots seem to make her look young, but when she is just hanging out, she looks as old as the young female sdf soldiers.

Like in this image her figure, especially her long legs, make her look too old to be a loli don't they?

I have never seen the show but judging from that picture, and others that I just found with a web search, that character does not look like a loli to me.

I have to wonder though, is that really that character that the "orgasmic loli" comment was referring to?

Considering she's the only character that had an on-screen orgasm so far, I'd say yes

Goth loli is a clothing style, and not really directly related to the apparent age of the wearer. Mero from Monster Musume also has a goth loli style, to make the point clearer.

OK.
That would explain why:
