Just waiting to see how the BDs+DVDs sell in Japan to gauge the success of Sky Wizards Academy. Many people in these forums never gave the anime credit for the action sequences where the animation quality was drastically improved.

Of course, Funi's license of this will likely be covered when it gets released on DVD/BD next fall (at the earliest).

Lately Funi barely ever gets OVA episodes. I mean for example with the new release of Future Diary on blu-ray they could have gotten the OVA ep...

If only licensing agreements covered all the anime adaptations. When Japan does things like this, it can make fans of the dub wonder if they will get to see official dubs of all the episodes.

Even during the action sequences, the animation still looked like crap. They''re suppose to be flying, but it looks more like awkward floating. A friend who saw one episode while I was watching described it as seemingly missing half of the animation frames. I doubt that is actually the case, but it does kinda give off that feel.

Honestly, if they could have at least done a better job with that, I would have a much better opinion of the series. And personally, I tend to enjoy most LN adaptions, many of which don't set a very high bar so I'm not expecting top tier animation or anything.

My point is that Sky Wizards Academy deserves credit for animation sequences like this

And even if still images made half an episode, relatively speaking, the animation was quite good for the latter episodes. Despite what people said, the anime showed a lot of potential and rightfully deserves a better budget if they do another season.

Me too. The setup for season two was great.

That isn't 'quite good,' that is just acceptable. And a couple of shots looking like that doesn't justify the vast majority looking like garbage. Go look at some of those god awful training scenes... If you're going to tank the animation for the majority to get a really good fight scene or two near the end, they better seriously blow the viewer away. That was just at the level of what you should expect.

I mean even with what you linked, the character movement while fluid (unlike pretty much every fight until that one which is in what ep 9?) is still rather limited.

No it really doesn't. Even as far as LN stories go, this one is really weak. It is a crappy Regios with more of a harem aspect. And I actually like most of the LN adaptions people hate on, but this is bottom of the LN barrel in more than just the visuals.

And what set up for season 2? They wrapped up that arc and from what I saw didn't introduce any indication of what the next arc would be about. I know there is one because there are more LN, but this certainly didn't set anything up. Maybe there was some fast cameo that novel readers might catch in the epilogue part of the 12th episode or something, but that isn't setting up a second season.

Actually I made that gif and it took some effort to make, it's from episode 10. If I were to compile all the dynamic animation sequences, it'd be clear that on the whole they're more than just passable. The problem is that without any video editing they're just too inbetween static sequences.

But they did an objectively awesome job with maintaining their characters true to their character models. You don't see that in a lot of anime these days. Also, there were plenty of gorgeous facial expressions and characters.

How they handled the theme about working in a team was another highlight of the anime.

If they were to make another season then they already have a great setup from this past season. Yuri who has a crush on Kanata is now in E601 and they never got their promotion even though they're OP. The show would really start in season two and, if they decide to make it, the show's proven that it deserves a better budget.

Earlier, someone used the term "passable", and I think that pretty much describes this entire series. The best part of it was Kanata and his training methods, but the plot itself... lots of cliches and missed opportunities, IMO: they didn't make very good use of the world that was depicted.

At least it wasn't a harem-comedy and the MC had a clue... well, sort of. I'm still not sure how aware he was of Yuri's interest him, or the red-head's.

Ultimately, the plot sorta meandered around and the bad guy was uh... underwhelming. This is solid 5 (Decent) material here.
