Will he produce a detailed expose of the inner workings of Japan's guilty until proven otherwise legal system? Or a self-pitying drama about how hard it is being him? Let's find out.

the fact that every article about this uses the same image of his face makes me perceive him as really annoyingly smug about all this

The abuse thing was bad enough but this is flat out ridiculous and whatever semblance of respect I had for him before this all happened is long gone. Even if he was somehow innocent (which going by his actions here seems rather questionable) this is on a whole other level of smug. Why on earth would he think this is a good idea?

Hey Tow...this is not what I expected you to do, but since you're doing it...I might as well give it a read.

People do the things that they think are good, right and proper.

Which means: people think the things that they do do are good, right and proper.

Which means: most people are pretty shameless about the bad things that they do, because the fact that they do them means that they don't think they're bad.

Oversimplification, of course: lots of the time you get situations where people act before they've thought through the moral consequences of their actions. But by-and-large and what-have-you. It means we can find out a useful amount of information about how many people do bad things by simply asking them: attitude surveys actually work pretty well, as silly as it sounds. "Are you a rapist", say, people will dissemble on, but "have you ever had sex with a person who asked you to stop and you kept on going" gets answered pretty honestly as near as we can figure.

So, yeah.

[but seriously, have you ever read mardock scramble? Bloke has women issues. Yeah, what people write isn't what they are, but it does reflect what they are, and the misogyny in the book really doesn't help the story, weakens the book considerably. If the misogyny doesn't come from narrative concerns -- a case that's I think pretty hard to make -- then it has to come from the author, and would be reflected in other aspects of his life.]

Well, this is alarmingly crass. I feel like maybe he should have waited a while before trying to capitalise on it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this to be especially rude.

It has to be a one shot, he hasn't been in jail that long. It could be an interesting read though.

Yeah, the fact that he wants to monetize it not 24 hours after being released and make a big joke out of it isn't doing anything in making me think he's innocent

Good for him, turning what I would assume to be a horrible experience into something positive is always nice to see. Will give it a read, love the guys works.

Don't get why people are hating him for it and acting as if he was guilty of what he was accused of, unless they know something I don't he wasn't proven guilty which is kinda important. Innocent until proven guilty no?

No one has any evidence to the contrary but that's never stopped anyone judging someone.

I don't think we can comment on his guilt or innocence as a result of it, but for him to immediately turn it into a manga almost trivialises it and makes it sound a bit like he thinks getting arrested for domestic abuse is some kind of joke.

Had he waited 6 months to a year, I'd understand and probably give a read, but the sheer speed of the turnaround is what makes it crass to me.

Or he is trying to make light of a bad situation to move past it. I think whether it is crass or not depends on whether he was guilty. If the guy happens to be entirely innocent, then I don't think that is being crass at all. And like you said, we don't really have anything to comment one way or another on his guilt.

I would have personally thought moving past it would be writing anything, especially something completely unrelated. I would have also thought this would just prolong the misery of being falsely accused.

I'm sorry, but there's no way this isn't a crass and cynical move from somebody. I don't personally think anybody should trying to capitalise on being accused of a crime immediately afterwards, regardless of whether they're intentions are good or not.

Dealing with things is often a more effective way to move on rather than ignoring and repressing. Writing about it is one way a person could do that.

You're saying if the guy was entirely innocent, that making a manga about being wrongfully accused and stuck in jail right after getting out is crass and cynical? I think you're being rather crass in that case because you aren't being very sensitive to a pretty horrible experience that an innocent person went through. I see absolutely nothing wrong with an innocent person who had to go through something like that making a manga. Whether it is to help himself move on or even to just try and get something positive (money) from it.
