As someone who really likes Rokka, light novels included, I just can't bring myself to give a crap anymore. I just have to accept that I'll never own any of them. Sad

I don't care how much you add to the collectors edition,

I only buy normal editions due to shelf space issues.

With 267 Series collected, i really don't have the shelving.

Wow. What a half-hearted comment. It might have been better for them not to say anything at all.

But yeah, I'm really sad I can no longer justify getting Rokka...It was my favorite show of the summer season, too...

I'm afraid so.

Toss out a bone and then yank it out of the pup's mouth, this will end well sure enough.

If they expect to dump the surplus of the non-existent Japan sales of the discs on the North American market, I have some serious doubts how that will pan out for them...

Are we seeing PonyCan US's swansong?...

You took the words right out of my mouth. Which begs the question: if PONYCAN USA is not interested in the more money conscious fans, why solicit standard editions in the first place?

I am still buying their Sound! Euphonium release because I like the show that much. And if PONYCAN USA is catering to the wishes of the people willing to pay $72 for 4 episodes, please get rid of those over side DVD cases. Sell each volume in a normal sized DVD box and include a nice chipboard box to house all volumes.

If you are charging $18 per episode, at least please me.

Glad they're going to keep focusing on the collectors market, for those not in that market though I can definitely understand why they're angry. They gave people who can't / don't want to spend a certain amount a bit of hope and took it away.

Rokka clearly wasn't big enough a series to make it worthwhile for them so they should have waited for a bigger series (Euphonium?) to try and go for a different market (the more casual fan) as well. Lesson learned I hope.

What kind of person would spend money on such a profoundly mediocre, unfinished series anyway? No one except for otaku diehards who'll buy anything, so why even bother with a standard edition?

I legitimately wouldn't pay $9.99 for a full collection of this show. I'd pay maybe $.99 for the sake of gifting or reselling it, maybe.

If they continue with this kind of sales policies, you bet it is. Greed can be self-destructing.

This statement just makes me less and less interested in buying any of their titles, Euphonium is still going to be a must buy for me but it really hurts liking a title that is being handle by a company that seems to be rather clueless.

Or it could be the other versions weren't selling well enough and would have ended up as a net loss. Can we stop turning every god damn PonyCan USA and Aniplex USA thread into "They're just greedy money grubbing jerks!"

Sure, there's business practices the world over that we know can be slimy money devouring machines, but you can't really make that case here, especially not in such a juvenile way either. Physical releases of anime are still a pretty niche market despite anime's surging popularity as of late, and I don't think any of the North American anime publishers are rolling in dough.

Also, Rokka has sold like garbage in Japan, so don't raise the "reverse importation" flag either.

Yeah, their releases are expensive, and yes, the removal of the standard editions suck. Keep making that known. It's constructive and shows these companies you are dissatisfied. What's not constructive is constantly shouting how "evil" they are, when they haven't done anything malicious or duplicitous at all.

^ I disagree. Cancelling the standard edition is pretty dubious/evil since all it does is punishes people with lower disposable income.

I wonder if they were getting some heavy pushback from their parent company in Japan about this pricing plan? Guess we'll never know.

Well I'm not. I really liked Eupho, and I would've been very happy to buy it at the SE release price that PonyCan was listing for Rokka's SE. But I didn't love Eupho as much as Yuki Yuna - which is one of my top 5 favorite shows ever - and that's what it would take for me to shell out that kind of money on another show.

I'll second this. If they're going to insist on returning to the days of multiple volumes, then it'd be nice to see them return to the days of giving us a nice sturdy box to store them in too. Could even be another enticement to buy if the box looks nice enough.
