Liked the sound of the song. I'm not huge on mecha anime, but I'm slowly dipping my toe in more and more to see if there are ones out there that I may enjoy. Hopefully this one doesn't burn me, like M3 did. Laughing

Starting with M3, which I've really heard nothing about, was probably an awkward decision. Mecha anime really isn't that tight of a genre, the mecha are only a tool, a means within a show where the themes, direction, and characters can be anything, from medieval knights in a fantasy world to sky surfers.

And with the Muv-Luv series in particular, since the putative enemies (the alien "BETA") are unknowable and kind of one-dimensional in their Zerg Rush tactics, the real antagonists are other humans, with the theme being that humanity will carry on its own conflicts even in the face of extinction. In Schwarzesmarken (and to a significant degree in Total Eclipse) that means the Cold War; it's an important point that this series is set in communist East Germany (which of course no longer exists in our world), with its rivalries with the West and interference from higher-ups in the USSR.

There are enough good mecha shows out there.... You can always give Gundam a shot, there are enough diffrence between the Gundam shows that you might like some. Also it wouldt hurt to watch Code Geass, Eureka Seven, Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Full Metal Panic. There are some more but the ones i just mentioned are great. Im not a huge mega fan myself but those i mentioned pretty much anyone can enjoy. Razz

It certainly turned out to be awkward viewing. But, before checking it out, I never really looked into much that had mecha in it. Main reason being, I've found the fights to be rather boring, as I only saw bits and pieces of shows here and there throughout my youth.

Though, M3 isn't really the first mecha I watched. Unless Zoids doesn't count? I liked Zoids: New Century when I was younger. And, I saw Robotics;Notes before M3...so, maybe that one will save me? Laughing

Yeah, over time, I've realised that. But, I've also found that a lot of the time, after reading a synopsis for a series involving mecha, there aren't that many that interest me on face value. Maybe I should give some of them more of a chance.

I will say, I've never seen full episodes (but maybe sporadic bits and pieces) of stuff like Gundam/Macross/NGE.

I've kind of enjoyed Aquarion Logos, but it kind of lost steam with me once spoiler[they defeated Sougon]. Unsure if I'm actually going to pick that one back up again...

NGE...only real contact I've had with that was reading the Angelic Days manga. Laughing

Unsure if that is one I really want to see though. I know a bit about the themes in NGE, so it does seem like something I'd have to be in the right "mood" for. Maybe its time will come.

Eureka Seven and Gurren Lagann are two I plan on checking out, just have to make the time to do so. They've been on my list for awhile. And, with the recent release, and reviews here on ANN, of Turn-A-Gundam...I plan on checking that one out too.

Off the back of the recent FMP announcement, and the recent Madman sale, I now own all 3 FMP seasons. Got them all for under $50AUD...so that's a plus. I'm just finishing off Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere (where 1 mecha has shown up) first, then will watch FMP.

On Code Geass, not gonna watch that one. I've gotten into the habit of reading discussion on final episodes of older series, to see if they're worth my time. I'm very much a "destination" kind of guy, where the ending can totally ruin what is an enjoyable "journey". After seeing too many anime where the final episode just didn't do it for me, I started this practice, and don't like the sound of CG's ending. So, that one I won't touch.

Yea, its not a really a happy ending. But despite that your missing out on a masterpiece. Personally I love sweet endings, but for Code Geassit kinda fits to be a bit dark. Despite your feeling i do recrommend to watch it.

I think you're free to have that opinion. But most people actually like that ending, to be honest. It's bittersweet, in a manner of speaking, but an appropriate destination for the main character(s). Of course, if you have a different idea about how the show should end, then that's open to debate. Still, I count that series as having a good conclusion, even if the journey wasn't perfect. I won't elaborate because this isn't the right place to talk about the subject.

Obviously, I can't argue against an ending to something I've not seen. I just know that it's not the type of ending I really enjoy. It does seem like something I'd have to be in the right mood for, like NGE, if I do decide to ever check it out.

But, as things stand, Code Geass isn't something I'm planning on watching. That could change, as I may get more into series that involve mecha. As I mentioned, I've only really dipped my toe in, but I'm still at a stage where action involving mecha isn't much of a draw.

And, I've yet to see a mecha anime where I've found the story and characters to be enjoyable enough where I can overlook the mecha fights. What's come closest is Knights of Sidonia. Even then...I've yet to see the 2nd season and I'm not in any rush to do so.

So, who knows, maybe Schwarzesmarken will be something to help push me into more mecha anime.
