Hajime no Ippo Manga Goes on Break Due to Author's Illness

posted on by Karen Ressler

This year's 27th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine announced on Wednesday that George Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga did not appear in the issue as planned due to Morikawa's poor physical condition. The magazine also said that Morikawa is recovering so he is aiming to resume the story in the magazine's 29th issue on June 21.

Morikawa began the long-running boxing manga in 1989, and the 117th volume (pictured right) shipped in April.

The manga has spawned three television anime series, an original video anime project, a TV special, and a PlayStation 3 game. Crunchyroll streamed the third television anime as it aired in Japan beginning in 2013.

Update: Typo fixed. Thanks, Laethiel
