Mitsuru Adachi Draws 'Natsu no Rakugaki' 1-Shot Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

This year's 35th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine published a new one-shot manga titled "Natsu no Rakugaki" (Summer Doodle) by manga creator Mitsuru Adachi on July 26. The one-shot is 30 pages long with a color opening page, and is the first time Adachi has published a new manga in the magazine since launching his Asaoka Kōkō Yakyū-Bu Nisshi - Over Fence manga in 2011.

Adachi is best known for such coming-of-age sports manga as Touch and Cross Game. Baseball is a common element in many of his manga. Adachi launched his Mix manga, which is set in the world of his popular Touch manga, in Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine in May 2012. Shogakukan shipped the manga's 11th compiled book volume on June 12. Asaoka Kōkō Yakyū-Bu Nisshi - Over Fence launched in April 2011 as an "irregular" series, but it did not continue.

Adachi drew Cross Game from 2005 to 2010 in Weekly Shonen Sunday. Viz Media published the series in North America from 2010 to 2012 in eight compiled volumes. Viz previously published Adachi's Short Program compilation of short stories. The Cross Game manga inspired a television anime series that ran from 2009 to 2010, and Viz streamed the anime.
