Coro Coro Comics Magazine's Kirby Manga Franchise Has 10 Million Copies in Print

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Shogakukan revealed on Friday that Coro Coro Comics magazine's Kirby manga franchise has 10 million copies in print. The manga is based on Nintendo's Kirby video game series.

Hirokazu Hikawa's Kirby (Hoshi no Kirby - Dedede de Pupupu na Monogatari) manga debuted in 1994, and various authors have continued the series in Coro Coro Comics since then.

Hikawa ended his manga adaptation in 2006. Shogakukan published 25 compiled book volumes for the manga. Viz Media licensed the manga in 2009, but did not release it.

A new Kirby manga titled Hoshi no Kirby - Manpuku Pupupu Fantasy (pictured at right) by Ibuki Takeuchi debuted in Coro Coro Comics in October 2016, and Shogakukan published the manga's first compiled volume on Friday.

Nintendo debuted in the first game of the series, Kirby's Dream Land, in 1992. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the game franchise. Nintendo has a new Kirby game for the Nintendo Switch in development for a 2018 release.
