Tōken Ranbu December Musical's Visual Revealed

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The official website for the Touken Ranbu musicals revealed the main visual for the Shinken Ranbu Sai 2017 musical performance on Monday.

Shinken Ranbu Sai 2017 will run in Tokyo on December 8-9, in Osaka on December 12-13, in Saitama on December 19-20, and in Guangzhou, China on December 23-24. The musical's Saitama run will stream the final performance live to theaters throughout Japan on December 20.

Shinken Ranbu Sai 2017 is a separate musical from Touken Ranbu Tsuhamono Domo ga Yume no Ato, the franchise's fourth musical, which ran earlier this month, and will have additional runs in January.

Tōken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta, the franchise's third stage musical, ran from March to April in Japan.

The second musical, Tōken Ranbu - Bakumatsu Tenrōden, ran from September to October last year, with a final performance in Tokyo in November. The first musical ran from May to June 2016.

"Shōri no Gaika," the single by the "Tōken Danshi formation of Mihotose" group from the Tōken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta stage musical, became the first single in the franchise to top Oricon's weekly single chart. The single's songs originate from the third musical.

The Tōken Ranbu "sword personification training game" takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scenario. The game launched in Japan in 2015, and it has more than 1.5 million users. The game has acquired a large female fanbase and inspired a wide range of merchandise, the Tōken Ranbu: Hanamaru and Katsugeki! Tōken Ranbu anime, and several manga.

The franchise is also inspiring a separate series of stage plays. The fourth stage play will run from December 15-29.
