Masami Yuuki Draws Kyūkyoku Chōjin R 1-Shot

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

This year's 51st issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine revealed on Monday that Mobile Police Patlabor manga creator Masami Yuuki will draw a one-shot special chapter for his Kyūkyoku Chōjin R manga in the magazine's combined second and third 2018 issue on December 11.

The original gag strip manga ran in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday magazine from 1985 to 1987, and followed Ichiro, a fifteen year-old android boy who begins going to a Japanese school. The manga was adapted into a 90-minute original video anime (OVA) in 1991.

Yuuki previously drew a one-shot for the manga in 2012 in Big Comic Spirits, and again in 2015.

Yuuki recently ended his Disu x Komi (Discommunication) manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Spirits on October 27. At the time of its launch in 2013, Disu x Komi was Yuuki's first entirely new series in 10 years, although he later launched the Hakubo no Chronicle manga (his first weekly series in 10 years), and ended it on May 29.

Yuuki's Tetsuwan Birdy Evolution (Birdy the Mighty Evolution) series ran from 2008 to 2012 in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. The series is a sequel to his Tetsuwan Birdy (Birdy the Mighty) manga remake that ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday and Big Comic Spirits magazines. The manga versions of Birdy the Mighty have not been released in North America, but Central Park Media and Funimation released the various anime adaptations, and Viz Media released some of Yuuki's Mobile Police Patlabor manga.

Yuuki is also the concept creator for Tetsuro Kasahara's Atom The Beginning manga.
