Trivia:

When the episode title screen appears, the title is read by a whispering voice. That whisper voice is created by an Apple computer program called "Whisperer".

There are also many Apple computer references in the series itself (check out Lain's desktop for one).

The wired is said to use IP 7. However, according to Unix standards only even numbered versions are supposed to be used, since all odd numbered version releases are experimental.

Wired is an anagram for weird.

Audio outtakes from the original Japanese series can be heard in various M83 songs from their debut album of the same name. For example: at the beginning of "Violet Tree" the "Whisperer" voice can be heard announcing the title of episode 2 from Lain (Girls), subsequently the first new line from that episode can be heard at the beginning of "Carresses" when a girl asks "What are you scared of" in Japanese.

Won the 1997 Japan Media Arts Festival prize for excellence at animation

The lines of code that can be seen on the blackboard in episode 1 are actual C instructions. The "printf" specifically is included in the "stdio" header file, a part of the standard C library.

In episode 04, when Lain "attacks" the agents the computer starts to flash with the name "HAL POWER 5000", a reference to the AI HAL 9000 of 2001: A Space Odyssey

In episode 7 at approximately frame 5:55 the source code for Conway's Game of Life implemented in common lisp is shown.
