Trivia:

Oddly enough, while X-Bomber was a failure in Japan, its English adaptation, Star Fleet, proved extremely popular in the UK. Queen guitarist Brian May even made an album of music inspired by the show.

X-Bomber was originally conceived as an alternative to the increasingy large anime market of the early 1980s, and was distinctly inspired by the various "Supermarionation" (often known as "Gerrymation" after Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson) programs from the UK. The credits even claim it was filmed in "Supermariorama."
