Trivia:

According to Helen McCarthy, The Professional was based on various Western action films the writers had used for inspiration. Ironically, the film's own influence can be seen in later Western films, such as Luc Besson's "Leon The Professional", Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill", and even "The Matrix". (Similar helicopter shoot-out.)

The cg sequence with the skeletons featured on the dvd was originally omitted from the vhs versions released in the U.S.

Factual Error: The Ford dealership Rita runs in San Francisco displays models (including the modified Ford Laser hatchback Duke Togo uses in his getaway) that were for the European market only. The only exception is the Ford Thunderbird Rita drives to pick up Duke Togo from the airport.

Leonard Dawson is loosely patterned after actor/game show host Richard Dawson (Hogan's Heroes, Family Feud), who was also an immigrant from England who found success in the United States.
