Fruits Basket Voice Comic Reunites Cast for Last Chapter

Voice comic of manga's final chapter part of 20th anniversary celebration of Natsuki Takaya's debut

Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Natsuki Takaya's (Fruits Basket, Hoshi wa Utau) debut as a manga artist by releasing a Fruits Basket "voice comic." The voice comic will reunite the Fruits Basket television anime series' voice cast to reenact the manga's final chapter. Confirmed voice cast members for the voice comic include Yui Horie (Tohru Honda), Aya Hisakawa (Yuki Soma), and Tomokazu Seki (Kyo Soma).

A "voice comic" combines manga panels appearing on the screen in an "anime" style while voice actors play the characters appearing on screen.

Those who purchase this year's 24th issue of Hana to Yume and 2013's first and second issues will be able to mail away for the voice comic DVD.

Also as a part of the celebration, Fruits Basket's Tohru, Hoshi wa Utau's Sakuya, and Liselotte to Majō no Mori's Liselotte will grace the cover of this year's 24th issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine, which ships on November 20. The same issue will contain book covers for those three series (the Fruits Basket book cover is pictured at right) as well as three new illustrations from Takaya. The same issue will also publish congratulatory illustrations from various authors and celebrities.

The third volume of Takaya's latest series Liselotte to Majō no Mori will also ship on November 20.

Tokyopop published all 23 volumes of Fruits Basket in North America. Director Akitarō Daichi and Studio DEEN adapted the story into a 2001 television anime series that Funimation began releasing in North America the following year. After Takaya ended Fruits Basket in 2006, she drew Hoshi wa Utau (Twinkle Stars Like Singing A Song) from 2007-2011.
