Busty Campaign Poster of No-Rin's Kochō Pulled

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

A poster from the sightseeing association in Minokamo, Gifu Prefecture has drawn criticism, including comments comparing it to "sexual harassment." As a result, the poster has been pulled from the stations.

The poster went up on Twitter on November 4, and it was removed from its only location at Mino-Ōta Station on November 29 after it drew complaints such as "It's unpleasant in women's eyes" and "If this were in an office building it would be sexual harassment."

"We didn't think it would cause an uproar," a member of the sightseeing association commented. "It's a stimulating design, so we took the criticism seriously."

The campaign poster features busty No-Rin character Kochō Yoshida in a sensual pose. The city's sightseeing association was collaborating with the anime to run a stamp rally in hopes of drawing fans: the model for the setting in the original light novel is Minokamo's Kamonōrin High School. Last year Minokamo enjoyed an influx of tourists after using a different No-Rin character on a poster to advertise a stamp rally.

The character appeared in the same pose on a commuter pass, coffee mug, earphone jack, t-shirts, and other official goods.

Meanwhile, in Shima, Mie Prefecture, the officially-recognized promotional character, an ama (female shell diver) named, Aoshima Megu lost her official status as of November following complaints from actual ama that the drawing is too sexualized.
