Goku Voice Actress Masako Nozawa Earns 2 Guinness World Records

Voice actress Masako Nozawa earned two Guinness World Records on Tuesday for her work as Dragon Ball's Goku. Nozawa was honored as the "voice actor who voiced the same character in a video game for the longest period" and "longest video game voice acting career." She was certified on October 25, 2016, at which point she had voiced Goku in Dragon Ball video games for 23 years and 218 days. An accreditation ceremony was held at Bandai Namco headquarters on Tuesday to celebrate her accomplishments.
After receiving the awards, Nozawa said, "I'm glad I was healthy. I wouldn't be able to continue without [my] health, so I'm reflecting on that deeply now."
Nozawa first voiced Goku in a video game in Dragon Ball Z Super Butōden for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, and she recently voiced the same character in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for the PlayStation 4 and Super Dragon Ball Heroes digital card arcade game.
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama also congratulated Nozawa in a message displayed at the event. He said, "Congratulations on getting Guiness World Records in two categories! I feel a bit proud when I think, 'It's only a little, but do I also have a connection to the records?'"
Nozawa not only voices Goku in the series, but is also the voice of Gohan and Goten. She's also known for her work as Dr. Kureha on One Piece and Kitaro in the first two seasons of Gegege no Kitarō.
