HiGH&LOW Characters Get Animated for Anti-Piracy Campaign

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

CLAMP's HiGH&LOW g-sword manga just ended this month but the characters are returning in a movie theater manners commercial to in part promote the live-action HiGH&LOW The Movie 2: End of Sky film that opens on August 19.

The commercial airs before the film starts and a total of five were made, each with a different "G-SWORD" gang, and the commercials will rotate out at the end of each week. In the commercial, the characters are at a theater in the SWORD district and they interact with one another and the camera-headed man known as Movie Thief, a stand-in character used to represent piracy.

Clamp's HiGH&LOW g-sword manga adapts the HiGH&LOW live-action entertainment project. The franchise, launched by Japanese supergroup Exile Tribe, began as a 10-episode drama series titled HiGH&LOW: The Story of S.W.O.R.D. that premiered on television and Hulu in Japan in October 2015. A second drama series titled HiGH&LOW Season 2 ran from April to June 2016.

In the story, a legendary powerful team called Mugen once dominated a town. The group faced resistance from the formidable Amamiya Brothers, the only ones willing and powerful enough to not give in. In the end, Mugen suddenly disbanded and the Amamiya Brothers disappeared without a trace. Afterward, a group of five gangs — Sannoh Hoodlum Squad, White Rascals, Oya High School, Rude Boys, and Daruma Ikka — take over, calling themselves "G-SWORD" and naming the area "SWORD" after their gang names.

The manga inspired a Flash anime that aired for five days in March during NTV's Sukkiri!! morning program. The anime will ship on DVD bundled with special versions of the manga on October 17.

The Road to HiGH&LOW film premiered in theaters in May 2016. A second film titled HiGH&LOW The Movie premiered in theaters in July 2016, followed by the HiGH&LOW The Red Rain film, which opened in Japan last October. A series of live performances titled HiGH&LOW The Live ran from July through October 2016 across Japan.

HiGH&LOW The Movie 2: End of Sky opens in theaters on August 19, followed by HiGH&LOW The Movie 3: Final Mission on November 11.
