Transform Into Fullmetal Alchemist's Ed, Winry, Mustang With AR

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The live-action film of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga launched a collaboration with Japan's Parco department stores on Friday. As part of the campaign, fans will be able to transform into Ed, Winry, or Mustang through AR.

The collaboration is part of the store's Parco Halloween Campaign. All 16 Parco stores in Japan are displaying a life-size cutout of Al. Each cutout stands about two meters and 20 centimeters (about seven feet and three inches) tall. Al wears the ears of Parco mascot character Parcoala, and Parcoala in an Ed costume appears on Al's shoulder. People can take pictures with the cutout.

Nearby each Al cutout is a place where fans can use the Satch Viewer smartphone app to transform into a character from the film. People can use an AR feature on their smartphones to appear as Ed, Winry, or Mustang from the film.

In addition, people who sign up for the Parco Card during the promotion can receive an exclusive clear file. Atomu Mizuishi, who plays Al in the film, also recorded special announcements that are playing in Parco stores during the campaign.

The campaign will end on October 31.

The film will open the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 25 for its world premiere. The film will have IMAX and 4DX screenings in Japan, and it will open on about 400 screens on December 1.
