Pop Team Epic Mook Includes Staff Comments on Making of Anime

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Yosensha released the Cluster Pop Team Epic mook (magazine-style book) on Saturday. The 96-page volume includes a 50-page "crappy feature" on the Pop Team Epic anime.

The anime's producer Kotaro Sudo and series director Jun Aoko contributed an extensive interview to the release and commented on all 12 episodes. "Pop Team 8bit" segment animator Makoto Yamashita, music composer Gin, and "Bob Team Epic" segment animation team AC-bu also have interviews in the mook. AC-bu reveals behind-the-scenes information about the kamishibai-style "Hellshake Yano" segment from the anime's seventh episode. In addition, Junichi Yamamoto discusses the shōjo parody "Hoshiiro Girl Drop" episode previews that he produced. The mook bundles a double-sided Popuko and Pipimi poster.

Apart from the Pop Team Epic content, the mook includes staff interviews and discussion on the Uesaka Sumire no Yabai ○○ variety program, as well as an article related to the second season of Mr. Osomatsu and its voice actors. In a Magical Girl Ore feature article, Kaito Ishikawa (voice of the male version of Saki Uno), manga creator Icchokusen Mōkon, and director Itsuro Kawasaki discuss the anime project.

The self-described "crappy anime" Pop Team Epic premiered on January 6. Bkub Okawa's original surreal four-panel manga centers around two 14-year-old girls, the short Popuko and the tall Pipimi.
