2nd Issue of Tezucomi Mag Adds 3 More Manga, Princess Knight Medal

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

After a hiccup during its launch, the initially titled Tezuka Mix magazine released its second issue under the Tezucomi name on November 5. The Osamu Tezuka tribute magazine's line-up includes manga adaptations of some of the creator's most iconic series like Dororo, Princess Knight, and Phoenix. The magazine added three more series in its second issue, this time based on Tezuka's Lunn wa Kaze no Naka (Lunn Flies into the Wind), Higeoyaji series, and Boku no Son-goku.

Atsuko Ishida was formerly an animator who worked on Ranma 1/2 and Magic Knight Rayearth before starting a career as a manga artist in 1998. She adapted Tezuka's Run wa Kaze no Naka for latest issue under the title Hatsukoi wa Kaze no Naka. The original Lunn Flies into the Wind tells the story of a teenage boy who falls for a girl in a poster he sees and takes it home with him to put on his wall. He decides this girl is his girlfriend and interacts with her like she's real. The story was published as a one-shot in 1979.

Higeoyaji is a reoccuring character from Osamu Tezuka's stories. Tezuka employed a character system known as the "Star System." It was if he created actors who were cast in multiple manga works as different people. Higeoyaji is one such star who appears in multiple stories, often as energetic middle-aged man. Readers can find him Black Jack, Astro Boy, MW, and Rainbow Parakeet to name but a few. Tezucomi's Ohige Series by Sansuke Yamada puts the mustached man back in the spotlight.

A third one-shot debuted in this issue by Spanish comic artist Kenny Ruiz (Magic 7). Son Goku Neko no Maki is a new version of Tezuka's take on the Chinese tale Journey to the West, the same story that inspired Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. The story was originally published in Manga King magazine from 1952 to 1959.

As a bonus, the magazine bundled a Princess Knight medal. Each medal has a unique serial number.

The magazine celebrates the 90th anniversary since the pioneering manga creator Osamu Tezuka's birth in 1928. It will run monthly for 18 issues.
