That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime got a full-page ad in the national edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper on Monday. The newspaper has one of the highest circulations in the entire world.
The appearance of the ad has been timed with the beginning of a new arc in the anime. The large text on the ad reads: "The current best-selling isekai (lit. "other world") reincarnation story! That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime TV anime starts a new arc tonight!"
The ad gives a brief introduction about the story of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and gives information about a "Slime challenge," encouraging readers to take photos of the slime Rimuru and post about it on social media with the hashtag #転スラ (tensura).
The ad also states that 3.3 million copies of the novel were printed in 2018 alone (December 2017 - November 2018). As of September, the series (including the manga) had 6.5 million copies in print.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime originated as a novel series by Fuse. The anime adaptation is based on the manga series drawn by Taiki Kawakami. The anime premiered on October 1. Crunchyroll is streaming the series, and FUNimation Entertainment is streaming an English dub. The show will have 24 episodes.
