posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

NTT Solmare Corporation's Comic Solmare e-book site site announced the winners of its "Minna ga Erabu!! Denshi Comic Taishō 2019" (Everyone Picks!! Online Comic Grand Prize) competition at the Ebisu Garden Place in Shibuya on Thursday. The manga website allowed readers to vote on 36 manga titles suspected to become big hits this year.

The Grand Prize went to the manga series The Villager of Level 999 (Lv999 no Murabito), an adaptation of Koneko Hoshtsuki's light novel series by artist Kenichi Iwamoto. The story follows a human whose parents were killed by monsters and fellow humans and so he sets out to eradicate monsters and destroy the world. His plan changes when after saving the Demon King's daughter, the pair instead decide to defeat those behind the fate of the world.

The Women's Comic Prize was awarded to both Shiki Kokonose's Kono Otoko wa Jinsei Saidai no Ayamachi desu and Shiki Chitose's Azfareo no Sobayōnin. Kono Otoko wa Jinsei Saida no Ayamichi desu (lit. "This guy is the biggest mistake of my life") is a romantic comedy that follows a woman who is loudly drowning her sorrows at a bar after her life-long pet dog has passed away. She's then approached by a man who has had enough of her wailing and sarcastically tells her to drink until she shuts up. The encounter goes from bad to worse when she discovers the insensitive man at the bar is her company's president.

Azfareo no Sobayōnin (Chamberlain of the Azfareo) is a fantasy romance starring a shrine maiden named Rukuru whose home village is destroyed. She gets a job taking care of a dragon named Julius in the Kingdom of Azfareo. Initially, Rukuru is scared of the dragon but her opinion changes after spending time with him and she begins to learn about the secret of the kingdom's dragon.

The Men's Comic Prize went to Oni o Kau (Raise the Demon) by Keito Yoshikawa and Yūbe wa o Tanoshimi deshita ne (Thou hast had a good night's sleep, I hope) by Renjūrō Kindaichi. Oni o Kau is set in Japan's Showa era and takes place in a mysterious pet shop where all kinds of creatures can be purchased, albeit with special care instructions.

The romantic comedy manga Yūbe wa o Tanoshimi deshita ne centers on Powder, who has been enjoying the world of Dragon Quest X and spends every day playing with party members online. One day, Powder unexpectedly has to share a room in real life with a teammate named Gorō. They discover that their real-life personas are not quite the same as their game personas. The series recently inspired a live-action drama.

The BL (Boys-Love) Prize went to Suki de gomen. (I love you. I'm sorry.) by Satoru Okamoto and Boku no Omawari-san (My Policeman) by Niyama. Suki de gomen. centers on a pair of childhood friends, Kōta and Haruto. Kōta has long loved Haruto, but his friend is a known playboy. Kōta resigns that his love will never be returned buy one day their relationship begins to shift.

Boku no Omawari-san follows two much older friends, 40-something business owner Seiji and police officer Shin. The two have known each other ever since Seiji's previous stint as a police officer and now Shin is assigned to patrol the area around Seiji's store. His love for Seiji never seemed like it would go anywhere until Seiji casually confesses an interest in dating men.

The "Minna ga Erabu!! Denshi Comic Taishō 2019" also included a category for TL or "teens love" manga, an erotic sub-genre targeting female readers. The manga series Subete Ai no Shiwaza by Akiko Monden and Chippai Kanojo to Bijin Kareshi by neco were awarded prizes in the TL category.
