Mt. Head takes grand prize at Zagreb International Film Festival, while Miyazaki is presented with Lifetime Achievement Award

Koji Yamamura's 10-minute short movie Mt. Head (Atama-yama) has won the Grand Prix at the 16th Zagreb International Animation Film Festival, held last week in Zagreb Croatia. The Zagreb Festival, which is held every two weeks, is considered one of the most prestigious animation festivals in the world, after the festivals held in Annecy (France), Ottawa (Canada) and Hiroshima (Japan) every year.

Prior to Zagreb, Mt. Head had been nominated for an Oscar in the Short Film (Animated) category, took first place in the animation category at last years Dresden International Film Festival and won the the Grand Prix at Annecy's 27th international animation film festival.

Also honored at Zagreg was Hayao Miyazaki, who was presented with a lifetime achievement award.

Prior to this year, Osamu Tezuka was the only Japanese ever honored at the Zagreb Festival. Tezuka won the Grand Prize and the UNESCO for Jumping at the sixth Zagreb Festival in 1984. In 1986 he attended the festival as an official international judge. And in 1988 he was again honored, this time with the CIFEJ (International Center of Films for Children and Young People) Award for Legend of the Forest.
