New York Anime Festival to Host World Cosplay Summit

Masquerade winners to be featured in Anime Insider photo spread

The New York Anime Festival has announced the rules for its masquerade. Notably, the masquerade winners will be featured in a photo spread in an upcoming issue of Anime Insider magazine, and Japan's World Cosplay Summit (WCS) will select its Team USA finalists at the event.

The team with the highest total score in the masquerade's "performance, craftsmanship, and faithfulness" categories will be selected as Team USA and sent to the WCS finals in Japan in August 2008. Only groups of two people are eligible to become Team USA; therefore, groups of three or more people must select their two entrants into the WCS contest in their applications.

To be eligible for Team USA, entrants must be US citizens, 18 years or older, and available to travel to Japan for the WCS finals between July 27 and August 9, 2008.

New York Anime Festival will be pre-screening masquerade entrants, and will select 40 acts to participate in the masquerade. The masquerade will take place on Friday, December 7 at the Jacob Javits Center.

The last time that the United States participated in the WCS was in 2005 when Anime Expo held the North American WCS finals.
