Manga Make New York Magazine's Best of 2007 List

posted on by Mikhail Koulikov

As the year draws to a close, New York Magazine has announced the winners of its 2007 Culture Awards. Two of the five winners in the Best Comics category hail from Japan. They are Apollo's Song, Osamu Tezuka's 1970 deliberation on the nature of love and desire, and Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms by Fumiyo Kōno. Kono's one-volume collection is composed of three connected short stories about the physical and psychological effects of the Hiroshima atomic bombing on its survivors. It won the Grand Prize at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival.
